I like to walk mountains and hills, but as all the decent climbs are out of my area I have to settle for a local shortish 5 mile hike over a local hill, through some woods and home. I’ve done this walk all my life it’s very pleasant and a little bit testing and I enjoy it, but blimey I’d love to be able to drive a few miles and do something more challenging and see a different scenery. Can you still do your hobby or are you finding it difficult too?
Fly fishing is a bit on and off at the mo, but I'd have to travel to get to anywhere decent... so off for now Draycott a bit far but a nice day out... Sent from my SM-T580 using Tapatalk
Hobbies. Out and about camping has come to a halt, we may have had a weekend somewhere if it was a nice weekend, we should be in Whitby next weekend for Burns Night, that’s cancelled. Walking hasn’t been affected as we can walk for miles around the old Notts Pit Trails and not see many people and consequently getting some good photos continues. The biggest impact has been the local music scene is at a dead halt, we haven’t seen anyone since last September. It isn’t that bad as we have all had good health which is important! Positivety is key, don’t let the situation get to you.
Absolutely Mark. I keep thinking it is just a test of our resilience and we shall get through it soon enough, then we can enjoy things we took for granted more.
It’s certainly tested something Malc, that’s for sure! Our mate Bob said of good friends “the more of us staying safe now, the more of us can have a beer together later”
I’m a massive fan of casual racism and conspiracy theories. This pandemic has been one of the best things to happen to my hobby in years. my other hobbies 1. Carp angling. Fishing is restricted to local only and no night fishing. I don’t consider my venues as local to me and although I know others are travelling further than I would have to, I think they are taking the pee and I have decided that I won’t fish until the current lockdown is lifted. 2. Krav Maga. Well that’s gone right out of the window. My club closed last apr/may. I was beginning to start my training for my black belt. I think it’s probably gonna be set back two years now as I’m so unfit and out of practice now I will need a year to get back to the level required just to start my grading training.
Paragliding has come to an almost complete stop, not because you can infect anybody at altitude, but travel and risk of needing to use health services that are too stretched already. Below is a picture of happier days pretending to be Chitty Chitty Bang Bang!
Playing in my bands - cancelled Weekly guitar building class - cancelled I am also starting to miss a nice draught pint in a pub too, and occasionally going out for a meal
Mountain biking - it was great this summer, riding most evenings, but now everyone is getting out at weekends and my local rides have to be shared with crowds all coming up from nearby towns and I have to concede to the sheer numbers out on foot which have grown almost exponentially this year. Also dog ownership has seemingly massively increased and dogs and bikes don’t go well together, so at weekends if I want to ride off-road I have to drive somewhere else where riding is permitted (bridleways or permitted forest trails) and there’s enough space to avoid crowds. Taiji - both clubs have shut down again after just a few weeks of being re-opened. I was meeting with a friend to train at weekends outside but then that involves a 20-mile trip each way and again public places are getting ever more crowded. Just have to find ways to keep doing stuff, the irony is that it now involves traveling further away to avoid crowds of people coming here to avoid crowds where they live and enjoy the countryside. It is what it is...
Lockdown is an opportunity to take up new hobbies and interests. I would love to be out in my van or go to walks away from my house or go fishing and the rest, but have to accept that we can't do all the things we love at this time. Walking locally from home is allowed and I enjoy the daily walks. We have no choice but to stick to the rules and be patient and look for new things to do, that's what most folks are doing. No point dreaming or making plans for the future, we have to live in the here and now and enjoy every day and live more simply.
There are various bits of the self build that have been left to sit for a while as there's always something more important and less disruptive to do ... like this bit of sloping ceiling that has been half done for five years. So the combination of the weather and the lockdown etc means these things are now being done ..... "Thank you Covid"
My dad was saying similar a few days ago. I had to remind him he is 80 and they have been retired 15 years, they’re used to a less active life, although they still walk avidly, and that we of working age with children are finding the lockdown a tad more restrictive and those little moments to ourselves walking, shopping, going to football, hobbies etc or visiting are a very important release. We are obeying the rule to the letter btw.
I’m living in puerto de naos on la Palma . Plenty of paragliding here. Every day weather permitting. Let me know if you want a cheap getaway. Or anyone else for that matter . Also campers are easy to sleep in parking lots or just about anywhere, no worries . There’s only 14 cases here on an island of 85,000 people. (I make no money from this just a favor. ) someone just landed..
Can’t go beach casting at the mo, due to not living close enough. Cautious about going too far on a motorbike this weather, roads are crap, and I don’t want to hit a deer. Naked Dwarf throwing is out, too, due to social distancing. And seal clubbing is out of the question, due to travel. So it’s just raves...
No dancing now ,it's coming up for a year , we've done a bit on zoom but it's not the same .we're currently doing tango ,not something I would normally think about .I stopped doing modern jive 4 years ago when I took up Lindy hop ,Balboa and shag .but I've got really out of condition ,I doing yoga which helps to keep supple .
Fixing my bus up - plenty to do to fill up time. Fixing up the garden. Writing software for small projects - I wanted an average speed GPS speedo, and use a sensor to make one of those G force sensors so I can go round corners in my bus and pull 0.000001 G or whatever.
