Thank for your help with these! I now actually think the foam is 5" + board, which may make late westy hinges awkward as well. The boot foam is 4" (old and new). The shape of the hinge prevents me padding out the underside of the seat base - at least without hacking away at the base of the seat which I don't want to do just yet. I put the 19mm wood I was going to pack the hinge with to show how an extra inch is what's needed (that's what she said!) My westy hinges are a bit past their best with bent pins and the small moving catch missing on one side, so I'm not adverse to some new hinges, but it's a bit of a minefield - especially as the size of my cushions is already fixed. I've asked the trimmer if it is possible to add an extra inch of foam with som clever retrimming. Suspect he'll ignore text message, but can try speaking to him during the week. Who could have predicted a simple job on the van balloons into spending more time and money than first predicted!
