Westy Continental - sliding door vs sink unit

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by orangefeeling, Apr 3, 2016.

  1. Like so often in life I'm confused!

I have a westy continental interior. The sink unit stops the sliding door handle from being operated internally, so it's through a front door to escape. Doesn't seem right!

The sink unit lines up with the edge of the bulkhead, and can't move across anyway as then the cooker wouldn't be able to drop into place.

Anyone got a picture of the side of the unit (I suspect the PO may have messed with the little table bit on the side) and one with the door shut so I can see where the handle should end up!

    Thanks,

    Alex

  2. I can just operate my sliding door handle from inside, it's a real tight squeeze though. I'll take a pic in a minute after my breakfast.

This is why somewhere in the world there's a warehouse full of cookers......
I'd hate not having a full door gap.

Maybe your inner handle is upside down.

  5. Is this a philosophical response?

  6. I never had an issue withh mine so summats not right. The spice rack and table should be below the hight of the handle!

  7. Thanks for confirming that its not right. having had a good look, I've concluded that the wood floor put in is too thick. Now I know it should fit, I've noticed that the contours on the back of the unit are about 15mm to far up the bulkhead if that makes sense - if the unit were that much lower my handle would work.

So, now all I need to do is rip out the floor. Or lower the unit!

Its a toss up - I've had a full size door with full length units and a 3/4 RnR bed, and am now trying the limited door and a full width bed. Only time will tell if I prefer this way round!

    Cheers all.

  9. Do you have this handle? Most break over the years so people install the other style of handle which is very awkward to open. They don't do a repro of this style of handle so you need to try and track down an NOS one. As zed says, installing this upside down (the natural looking way!) won't open the door correctly.

  15. Ive seen a good few continentals, crossover and late and not seen one of those fitted. They either break easily or its a non uk thang i reckon.
