Westfalia interior cabinet restorations?

Discussion in 'Restorations' started by GAVLAD, Mar 25, 2013.

  1. Hi
Can anyone make any recommendations for companies who specialise in restoring interior cabinets?
I have a 1974 Westfalia Bay - Continental Malaga model and some of the interior cabinets have cracked veneer.
The worst is the lid which covers the hob.
I've thought about replacing it but as everything else is original, it wouldn't look right. Plus, it's wood veneer outer and white underneath (which acts as the splash back when opened)
    Any ideas?
    Thanks

can you not re do the veneer yourself , i think the veneers are available from good timber suppliers etc , pop up some pics of your interior .

  4. Hi there,
I looked into this last year and there are companies who advertise in the usual mags for formica veneer sheets.
Ideally, you'd have to send the company a sample to try and best colour match and also try to match the wood effect pattern. However, they only sell in big sheets.
I only need to cover an approx 45cm sq area.
But it's the matching that's the problem.
I've tried local timber & kitchen suppliers and all are way off when it comes to matching the Westy veneer.:(
Majority of the interior advertisers in the mags look to do kits or MDF.
I see some Westy interiors in some vans similar to mine and I always wonder how did they restore the cabinets to look so original and so good?

The best way is to find good condition panels door etc and replace with used original, I'm braking some cabinets so may have a spare bit to suit your needs, what size do you need? They are available new from jk I think but it's not a match if you want to swap single panels, it's fine if you want to do a complete revamp
