  3. It’s T’d into the stock water system in the Florida. There’s a 10 litre gas boiler in the roof (yes, really!) and 90 lites cold water tank.
The boiler goes up to 75 degrees so you mix it with the cold to get the temperature you want.

The hot and cold pipes for the shower are easily accessed to tap into from behind the (normally locked) nearside door.

There’s a submersible pump in the cold tank (which I’ve uprated for more flow). At the moment I just click the kitchen tap on a smidge to engage the pump (micro switch) and click in the hose into the shower at the rear.
I’ve got a waterproof switch to wire in at some point when I get round to it :)

  4. When it comes to camping with 4 people totally agree. We’ve had Bays for 15 years (and beetles before that since I was 15 and still do) so aircooled VWs are in my blood.

My girls have both camped since they were months old in the Bays. They are now 15 and 11. They don’t fit in the Westy roof! Fed up with awnings.

Florida is now our primary camping vehicle...the Continental is my regular vehicle for tootling around now and doing day trips.

I’m fortunate to be able to hang on to both. Wouldn’t want to sell the bay...it’s part of the family.

Hand on heart though...we love camping and exploring so if I HAD to make a choice I’d keep the Florida.

A swivel seat never came as standard and nothing ‘bolts in’.

A £60 swivel...an angle grinder....a bunch of metal bar...a welder....a tape measure and several days of head scratching and tack and checking resulted in a functioning seat.

Clears the door (arm rests are the issue) and the engine cover. After MUCH trial and error it only raises the seat 30mm.

  6. Some electrical upgrades this week...

    Solar!

150w panel. Victron MPPT with Bluetooth. I’d already upgraded the leisure batteries to two 120ah units. Made sure all the wiring was hidden away other than the waterproof gland on the roof.
All working well. Gotta love some free electricity :)

Can keep an eye on the batteries and solar performance live on my phone and look at history etc. That novelty will wear off soon and I can forget about it and let it do its thing.

Oh...and I gave the Continental a well earned wash too :) Looking forward to actually driving these at some point!

Next project (after some engine work on the Bay) is a skylight upgrade on Flo.

Like any job like this- once I’d measured a million times and made the first cut it was all relatively straight forward :)
