Well it’s official

  1. There's a delayed reaction between what you do and what you see on the scales, different things are happening at different times. These delays can be days or weeks apart.

If you're wanting to follow a traditional diet, i.e. calorie watching, and don't want do something like Weight Watchers (the mutual support may or may not help you but it is kinda expensive), I recommend you read a free PDF book called The Hackers Diet. (I recommend this book whatever diet you do!) Written by the guy who founded Autodesk, it will give you a lot of background info and help you to see things objectively. One of the striking things he proposes is not to follow traditional advice and 'weigh yourself every week' but weigh yourself every day. Disassociate any emotional attachment from what you see and just record the number on a chart/spreadsheet and then what you are left with over the next few weeks is the moving average which will show you losing weight (you can even get an app for your phone that can plot it for you). I found this extremely motivational, once I'd learned to ignore the reading and just write it down. I lost a couple of stone over a year back in 2011 doing this (I went from very Obese II to Obese I).

That was it for a few years, so in 2018 I got motivated again and I lost 3 stone in 8 months, by switching to a low carb diet (Keto). Since moving back to the UK in 2019 and enduring a lot of changes which caused me to fall off the wagon, the surprising thing is that today I am still the same weight as I was on the day I did my pilots final exam almost exactly 2 years ago. I have not gained any of it back, contrary to what the naysayers told me would happen by not following a 'traditional diet'.

This leads me to say, that although I am not a medical professional, I must strongly emphasise we are not all the same and we all have different reasons for being overweight. Find your root cause, and pick the method that suits you, something you can keep going at rather than get frustrated and quit, which causes more harm than good.

Lastly, pay no attention to the slim people in their 40's still wearing the same pair of jeans when they were 25, who say stupid things like 'just stop eating FFS'. I have about as much respect for them as I have for the contents of my morning dump.

    Good luck.

  3. Always amazed me watching Friends Of Size eating. I watch open-mouthed as they shovel it in, then are amazed they end up the size of a small airship.

  4. Thank you. I’m going to download that and have a read. That’s an interesting idea to track a weight trend rather than a weekly test.

  6. My foolproof way of knowing if I need to do a bit more is if I wobble more!
Moobs jiggle? Less bread and beer, more bike riding!
Moobs slow down to a jovial sway? Get on the pizza and cider again!

    Easy:thumbsup:
