  1. Afternoon Guys and Gals!

Is there any one local to Derby that could take a look at my gear linkage with me?

I'm getting married at the end of July and was hoping to use my Bus for the soon to be Mrs, for whatever reason i can't get the gears to engage. I've done all the normal gear shifter plate, all bushes replaced, loosen bolts in 2nd so on and so on but im struggling.

    Help :/...

    Cheers Tom

Does it go into gear with the engine stopped ?
If so you may need to check the clutch adjustment too.

    Sorry I am in Southampton.

  4. I just adjusted clutch cable while I was under the van changing fuel hoses. Goes into gear the best it ever has!

  8. Have you checked the cage that connects the gearbox to the shift rod, they can self destruct.

  9. Remember the phrase ‘the lord moves in mysterious ways ‘

You were hoping to use your bus to get your prospective wife to the church. For no reason the bus now doesn’t work.

I will leave you to draw your own conclusions.

What I will say is I wish that bloody jag had broken down on my wedding day.

has it been OK before and when did it start to be a problem ....can you engage the gears at all ...all be it difficult .

  13. bought the bus as a project so its never run whilst ive had it. (engine and gearbox were in the cab. Engine now running. Gearbox selects out of bus but not when fitted. Its something to do with the shifter plate at front and clutch, ive been through every manual and every forum and tried the lot. Its something to do with the way ive set it up (first bus) so need someone to take a look. Before i take it to a vw specialist (there are a few local) wanted to see if anyone on here could help out.

What do you mean by how you have set it up ....is it the right gearbox . What engine is it 2ltr or 18.oo or 17.oo 16.00 3 rib box or 6 rib box .
Have you checked the grub screw coupling which lies roughly where the back of your front seats are underneath on the long gear shift rod ...might have come adrift but not showing a disconnection .

  18. Yep all checked. I climbed under the bus earlier and rammed it in manually then screwed down the shift plate it may have fixed it
