    and how to spell:)

  6. Seems obvious, but look long and hard for a decent welder, and all depends on what your welding

You must have the amps to low :)

What are you welding ? Body panels or structural stuff or both? Try to get a welder of 150 amp plus and fan cooled, ideally with a euro torch 20-30 amp minimum is ideal

Back on topic, its quite a hard thing to learn from pointers, i read all theforums etc. found out the best way is to get some scrap metal and experiment. Start out with plug welds, easy to start on an youll be doing a fair few if your restoring a bus.
Also dont try and run a long bead, you wont be doing that on your bus as youll distort the metal. Try doing lots of little blobs one slightly ontop of eachother,
Kind of like laying out a line of dinner plates, each one covering 1/2 of the previous one.

Make sure both surfaces are cleaned fully, flap disc on a grinder is good. That you have a good ground and gas flow.
Youll pick it up pretty quick.

Ps.. Do the bits you dont see first, i started with the belly pans and cargo floor, its messy, but i can cover it :)

I am by no means a pro welder, i only learnt 6 months ago. But my welds are neat an strong. I only have a £200 clarke 90 welder :(

body panels so what do i hire and what about body distortion it little at a time so it doesn't get too hot

  11. That's your age :)

  12. Scrap metal and lots of practice. You need a good weld penetration without blowing through.

i know about blowing through when lead burning

  14. The sound your looking for is like bacon frying ;) And as carl says you can only learn by doing but the hardest part is setting it up, but that will come with practice. welding is all about practice ,just do it

As Womball says, it's about hands on practice. As soon as I could manage to sort of stick 2 bits together I got stuck into the bus. Do a cheap panel first and don't use it all, then if it goes really wrong, you can hack it off and start again.

Would you describe yourself as patient Ken?
