    #LUCKY ESCAPE
Last night i came home late pulled up on the drive next to the van and thought i could smell fuel, to late and to tired to think straight i went to bed, forgetting all about it this morning and determined to have a lazy day it slipped my mind, meanwhile mrs roo rings me at 2pm from work (having left at 1) to say have i been outside? it smells of fuel and it's wet under the van (not in the usual place - oil leak fixed) going out i see a wet patch by the n/s rear wheel and stink petrol, a quick shufty under reveals a steady drip from the fuel filter, checking the clip it feels loose (recently replaced all lines) no worries i get a screwdriver but as i tighten it gets worse..... quickly running for a jerry can i'm flapping now as it's pouring out..... get can lie under van (soaked in petrol) pull pipe off into can, what greets me when i calm down proved i should have not used jubilee clips, basically on a F.I van there's a very short section of 10mm fuel line which joins the filter to the pump, when i replaced this i couldn't reuse the fuel hose clip so used a jubilee....... forgot all about it and that was that, here's some pic's you can see the jubilee has crushed the filter inlet, pic of an old filter to compare.

see how the tang on the clip has gone oval into the filter

van currently jacked up one side and a can catching drips before i block the pipe until i get new filter and clips

and here's something else, the brand new fuel hose R9 feels a lot softer than a new piece from the shed and it's only been on a month, surely petrol can't break it down that fast?

bit baffled the vwh one says 11mm outlet - i thought it was 10mm - certainly have 10mm hose on now, the jk one shows jubilee clips as the clips to use!

re examining the filter (which was from jk i think - a couple of years ago) it is a softer plastic than the original one in the picture in my 1st post, does anyone know if the 3 filters i linked above are differing quality, i'd like a nice strong one.

  8. I think you just overtightened the clip. also place it further up the line.

  9. I didn't think you were supposed to use jubilee clips on fuel hose, but these instead:

Bad idea using Jubilee clips. Get the proper fuel hose ones and don't risk it.

as i said, i have fuel clips everywhere else and did on the filter before i changed the pipe a month ago, am going to get proper clips just glad i was lucky this time

  12. Are these the ones for E10 petrol? I to have a 2.l fi and getting concerned with the e10 petrol and our engines, have you changed all the pipes, just wondering what's envolved!

changed all the pipes twice in two years fiddy on fi engines (18 clips in engine bay alone) but be methodical and it's easy enough

  19. Ooh I bet it hurts, I have my engine out at the moment and was painting the engine bay and knocked the fuel pipe from where I poked it and got a drop in my eye. That really hurt too.
