WANTED VW T2 Bay

Discussion in 'Late Bay Classifieds' started by The Steels, Aug 15, 2021.

  1. Hi! My 1976 Camper, listed a few days ago, meets all your requirements, except the sink! To be honest, we've never minded walking to the pot washing facilities on any site we've visited, and also we don't have to empty out the dirty water!
We're looking for £29995 for our 'van. Is that within your price range? Jon B

  2. Hi Jon B, funny enough we've been looking at your camper today, it's gorgeous! Yes it would be within budget, where are you based?

  3. We're in Castle Cary, Somerset. My number is 07761 801772 if you'd like a chat about it.

  4. That's very kind but we're in the Midlands - a four hour drive away - ideally we would like to find one much closer to home. Many thanks for your time.

  5. I understand. Best of luck with your search.
There's some good advice from others in the thread above. It's realistic to put aside a contingency for repairs each year, especially as the MoT approaches. I'd also take a good look at all the invoices you are presented with (and don't buy if there aren't any!). Photographic evidence of restoration work is very useful too, and try to check the reputation of companies that have carried out work. The restoration done on ours four years before we bought it was in fact by the owner's son-in-law, and we should have checked his company out - they had no experience of renovating classic vehicles, it seems! And try to establish a good relationship with a local specialist mechanic, so that you get to know him, and he gets to know you and your 'van.
Hope this is helpful. Best wishes, Jon B

  6. Thank you so much Jon, that is most helpful, I really appreciate it! People have been so helpful on the forum, as you say some great advice. Good luck with the sale. Warmest wishes - Glenda

  7. Sorry, just one other thing I forgot to tell you - our van is a Devon conversion, with standard suspension (not lowered) and standard VW wheels. It is 203 cms high, so should be ok for your garage. The other dimensions are 450 cms long, and 170 cms wide (including door mirrors). Hope this helps. Best wishes, Jon

  8. Thank you so much it certainly does help with the worry of whether one will fit our garage doors, however I'm going to go cry now as yours is so perfect but so far from us :(

  9. Distance shouldn't be an object.

I went from Yorkshire to Essex to get mine.

That was over 25 years ago and still love it.

As per Paul's post; four hours over the next 20 years is nothing - if it sounds and looks good, make a weekend of going.

Yup. We flew to L.A then drove down to San Diego for ours. 4 hours drive pah! Come on @The Steels it's a question of perspective... :D

  12. 30k would buy a nice solid Cali bus, spend a few quid to convert to RHD if your that bothered.

Gloucester to Wimbourne for me ... and that was a secret trip! ... No disrespect to @Jon B whatsoever but for £30,000 I'd be taking along a third party expert as you haven't seen many (any?) as yet .......

I was gonna say I drove 4 hours down into Cornwall for mine, but you may have just trumped me slightly ;) :D

If someone was happy to pay £30k I’d drive to theirs!

About 8 hours from Aberdeen to Leicester for my Westy, although I didn’t bother to look at it, I just got it picked up.

But if someone was interested in paying 30k for a Devon conversion with a type 1 engine I’d be driving it meet them.

  20.
