Best place I've ever seen a Propex, does it work well, a friend of mine said they only work on a horizontal surface is this not true.
Very tempted to relocate mine here. :)

Having seen this, I stupidly offered to do the same for a customer. Very nice once it's done, but never again, it took way too long.

I kind of knew, it was all the leaning in the cab door that made it a bind. :)

The van passed its MOT yesterday, and I've had the feeling of relief and achievement since. :)

Its taken long enough though at 4 and half years, along with at times my sanity, my health, and my money, but looking at it now I hope it'll be worth it.

Going to insure and tax it this week as wanted a free tax disc before they stop issuing them.

Still lots to do with all the interior to sort, but now it's a rolling restoration I assume my membership to the SMG is revoked or do I become an honary member?

Not much to update upon as I've been working away alot, but I've been tinkering with making fibreglass speaker builds for the lower kick panels, and producing moulds to reproduce and sell them, almost ready to start producing them now.

But heres a few pics showing the process I've used.

Roughed out the speaker ring location with wood and masking tape.

Used fibreglass paste to hold it all in place.

Stretched 4 way stretch fabric over to create a contoured surface.

Coversd this in resin to harden up the fabric and create a base for finishing with body filler.

Primed, and painted, after trial fitting and making adjustments these would be used to take moulds from.

Mould making, mounted to provide a flange around the edge of the mould.

After sealing any voids with filleting wax and preparing the surfaces with wax/release agents I poured the first tooling gelcoat, followed resin and matting to produce a mould of the original panels.

After curing for about 2!days I pulled the panels from the new mould.

Then repeated the above process to begin producing the first panels.

    To be continued...

The first panels used in the mould are used to break the mould in and are a bit experimental with regards to gauging how thick they can be produced whilst retaining some flexibility to allow them to be fitted as per the originals.

Ready to remove from the mould,

Heres where I'm upto now, the speakers I've used are 6.5" with a depth of 60mm.

Quickly covered one in some leather cut from an old sofa, just to see what they'd look like, as I plan on the rest of the interior being done in something similar.

Blimey! Nice work. I read first few pages then skipped to the end as I'm about to go to sleep. I shall read the middle tomorrow :)

  18. Nice footwell speaker pods. Doesn't your toes hit the speakers when on the accelerator? Mines got loads of scuff marks at that point. :(

I've taken the van for a drive and did'nt get any foot/speaker contact, my right foot does'nt get near the top of the accelerator pedal, so maybe need someone with bigger feet to testdrive them ;)

  20. the van is looking great, love the idea of those kick panels with speaker mounts built in

how are you getting on with the rest of the interior? ...what are your plans for it?
