Thank you TLBers and thank you thank you thank you Ray for all your help and negotiation skills to boot.
    What a fun morning!
Dependent on the new MOT being ok I will hopefully soon be the proud new owner of a bus : )
We took a few more pics so I’ll post the next instalment of the fuel breather question, and a question for you all about the front suspension…but for now I’m off to feel excited and grin a lot. Whoop whoop!

I’ve never spent so much of someone else’s money before, it was fun, when can we do it again

  7. This would originally have had fuel injection, some gash American garage will have junked it for the single Weber progressive carb.

@RuthieRoo it looks like a lovely bus and if it runs and drives well it'll be fine on that carb

Double check what fuel pump is feeding the carb

It looked like a facet to me or something very similar.

Not sure who junked the FI but that Carb was fitted very recently and has not been setup correctly so it needs doing as one of those ‘first’ jobs, but drove ok. First time I think I’ve driven a manual bay!

(I’m sure the owner said the twins were boscal or something or other and leaked so needs a refurb)

The wiring in the rear was a bit of a rats nest, all the left over wiring from FI

Engine was rebuilt (top end I understood) about 5/6 years ago, thankfully no LVH stickers in sight

    I like it!
Good job @Razzyh Ray. Chip was originally Dakota B.e.i. ge so I've got a proper soft spot for beige buses. It's my excuse for why his engine bay looks a bit tatty. Can't bring myself to paint it!
Mrs Monkey hates it, so he is what he is but I'd have him repainted in a heartbeat.
Did you enjoy your cake? :food:

So much so I had the painter mask around the export sticker from 1978 when he had his paint refresh a month or 2 ago.

  12. Morning all
So, Freddy passed his MOT yesterday! (The seller named him after the FR at the start of his Californian plate.)
Same advisories as last year plus rear tyre worn and needs to be replaced soon which we knew about.

Here are some more photos from the second visit, including the mystery of the fuel breathers - they did go to a T off to the right which then comes out of battery tray, see photo. What are your thoughts on this?

  14. The engine certainly needs some tuning.

My other main question I wanted to bring to the forum is this welding on the front beam, what do you think? It was done to lower the front suspension. Thoughts please! Thank you

  15. ha ha, it was really good fun, I’ll let you know when I’m next spending some cash (which I will imagine will be fairly soon if I’m buying a bus ) we can bring back the good cop bad cop duo

It will stop the fuel tank imploding but Greta will give you a stern look if you leave it like that. It should be routed to the air-filter so that the fumes are burnt rather than escape into the atmosphere.

Well it's not my thing as I'm not a lover (although I appreciate the style) of lowered buses. However, it passed the MOT so hopefully it's structurally sound if not the prettiest job.
Those that know about such mods are better placed to comment.
One for the list perhaps to have tidied up?

There's a man who lives on Hayling Island who is reasonable at stitching bits of metal together and will give you honest structural appraisal. It's a nice jaunt down to the south coast.
@davidoft has a ridiculous appetite for breakfasts and cakes though so be warned.

As for the cab steps, well welcome to the battle against corrosion lol. Nothing major there from the pics, again the metal guru could advise.

Fuel breather...it works I guess so you won't explode. Another one for the tidy list but no Biggie...

That used to be the cheap way to lower buses.
You could get that carb tuned but in all honesty many would view it as throwing good money after bad. I know Ray was happy with his but that's something of a rarity.
