  1. Bring back National Service. And the birch.

I'm sure a few on here will be nodding enthusiastically at that..................

Yeah, lots , try getting in Australia or New Zealand without appropriate paperwork, we can control who comes in, but so can everyone else, the police state argument is nothing like what’s happening, I bet half the folks moaning about such travel restrictions have never left their county never mind travelling to a foreign land

  3. So, if someone is offered the vaccine, and for whatever ridiculous reason they decide not to have it..

.. and maybe, just maybe they subsequently get ill, with covid, and expect the NHS to care for them, presumably at significant cost, is that fair?

    discuss.

Send them to one of the Nightingale hospitals and check on them every, say 10 days. ( Slightly tongue in cheek... but only slightly).

  5. So we started on no shows, moved onto UK internal stuff and now worldwide travel. It's not an epidemic its a pandemic, travelling to foreign countries has always required jabs but not within the UK. Used to have a slip of paper for yellow fever.

Here we go ... smoking, alcohol and mind altering substances cause significant level of illness and increases demand on the NHS, its well known that eating all the pies and being obese and getting diabetes other weight related illness puts a significant strain on the NHS ... is that fair, which sick person deserves the NHS to care for them where resource is finite.

Then you have the speeding car driver that crashes his car ... does he deserve care?

Fortunately we have an NHS that doesn't judge.

it’s interesting but no difference to not exercising, eating bad food, choosing to be a skydiver etc, i expect some folks may ask for a bit back if they die early

We have plenty of "papers" now....driving licence, passport....were not talking not having had your dental check up, but potential carrying/ having a seriously contagious disease.

    Really?

You mean that the act of putting a needle in a persons arm is by far the easiest part of the whole vaccination process?

If only someone would have spotted that.

Yes, I agree. If we were confident that we had an efficient and reliable system for contacting people and recording when they had the first and second injection, then we might be in a better position to deal with no shows, and have vaccination certificates and so on. What do you think are the chances of having such a slick system? I was speaking with an elderly friend today who had the first injection last week and then she got a letter to tell her to go for her injection. There was a phone number to ring so she did to tell them that she had been done, and spent half a day failing to get through to anyone....

    True, just realistic...
always had rules, always will and as I get ( much) older, I care less how restrictive they are.
Give me my injections, together with a nice badge or something, so I can eventually go wherever I want.

Careful which badge they give you.

  17. Try Blue Peter they used to do one a bit nicer than the one @Moons got with his injection.

With all these different strains of the virus its probably wise to have a half empty glass ... next up the Brazilian.

    That's good news!

What if your mum had moved house and not updated anyone, so never received the letter?

I bet she'd be delighted to have her name shared as a no show, of face further penalties.

These systems rely heavily on up to date data - as we don't have a single set of data and the other data sources don't talk to each other (we have driving licenses, NHS Numbers, Passports) this is going to be an issue for a % of people.

That % can be tens or hundreds of thousands of people.

she didn’t really try hard enough

  20. Thanks, she hasn't moved house since the 1960s, she'll leave that house in a box. How often does the electoral role get updated I seem to get regular requests but of course that doesn't have phone/email contact detail requirements. Strangely she was contacted and got her vaccine injection through the local health centre, the day before she got a call from the GP saying if she wanted they had some spare that day if she wanted to pop up. So clearly people can be contacted in some cases twice!!
