Hi everyone
Looking for an advice really..got this gas cylinder it came off a late westy..now my og plan was to use it as a diesel/paraffin tank for a heater..however I have been thinking if it could be restored (it’s not rusty) and used as intended after replacing all the bits (regulator etc) ?..wondering if all of them are available (and reasonably priced)..for sure I wouldn’t use them due to age and being a US spec..is it worth it?..did any of you restore it and use it?..if so no problem with filling in with cheaper gas/lpg? What your thoughts on this?

Hi. I'm facing the same quandary but from a slightly different angle. I damaged my external valve and was looking to replace them but, and it's a big but, I am aware that petrol stations are phasing out LPG filling points and I've been told that within about 3 to 5 years, you won't be able to fill the tank at a petrol station. I'm not aware of it is possible to fill it elsewhere and if it was I would probably fix mine to keep it original.

The Samba does have a link to a supplier in America but I haven't followed it up because of the supply of gas issue.

4. I'd imagine on a US tank they would be NPT, but adaptors should be available.

7. You'd need the extra-long hose at the pump.

Matt did his so should be able to advise. I think maybe theBusmonkey also uses their tank.

I was using my tank until I bust my valve last year. It's great, it's cheaper than a refill canister and it doesn't take up space inside. But I don't think I'm going to do a costly fix and reinstall it if the refill points are going to phased out. :(

11. I removed mine last summer :(

They are a brilliant solution, but I found, on a lowered Bus, there's not enough ground clearance, I would check the regulations before deciding to invest further.

..ahh that’s not a good news then is it?..I’m even more puzzled now..on the one hand 3-5 years is still long time and lots of use but on the other hmm probably not worth the investment and drilling new holes..thanks for all the info anyway

We've got a gas-it internal one. Ripped out the Westy one years ago. LPG supply is potentially an issue here in the UK but for Euro travel less so.
Calor are stopping the 3.9 bottle and their 6kg lite and that's not helping.
World's gone mad!
