Underfloor heating in a bay?

  1. Wondering about this for when we are on hook up. I’m about to re-carpet so what could go wrong?

There’s not really enough floor area but it would probably be worth doing, and under the bed would be as good as an electric blanket.

Be careful not to wet the bed! :)

I’m old but I haven’t reached that stage yet, when I do my campervan days will probably be over.:(

  6. I flirted with the idea but being an electronic numpty I ran it by a mate who knows about these things . His verdict being a normal 16a caravan site supply would probably overload and trip out .
Suppose that's why the caravan lot don't use electric blankets ...

  10. tested one in ours as had it left over from an install, after ages with all metalwork even insulated couldnt really feel it and besides would make floor depth an issue too. Fitted propex instead. Plus most sites are on working rcbos so most likely would end up tripping site out too.....

  11. I picked up an electric blanket for the van (a 'Silentnight', so reasonable make) as the missus feels the cold and it's only 40 watts (<200mA) on the max setting. The idea being even my little 140W inverter should easily run it for when we're sitting with a cuppa on a chilly evening with a blanket over our knees. I've yet to prove the principal but anything to try and make the prospect of camping a bit more appealing to her indoors...

Did you know that there is a device that you can run from the gas in your bus, even if you only have a cooker, and it warms up the bedding ?

    A hot water bottle.

The inverter plus blanket idea makes some sense provided you only use it for short periods - one hours use will take about 5AH of capacity out of your leisure battery.

We went to a RHS Malvern Spring Show one year, about Techenders time. Stayed at the Hereford C&CC site. All the big white vans switched on their electric heaters on hookup and took out the entire site mains supply at about 2300, on a night with temperatures about 0C. It apparently was scheduled to be restored about 1600 the next day.

It was actually a September when the power tripped. A clear night.
