Sorry for delayed reply, i've been away camping. I had no issues when running the 88 rated tyres, but was told that they were incorrect and proper commercially rated tyres were safer & may stop me blowing about in the wind. So I then purchased the highest load rated tyres that were available in 185 65 R 15. These were continental Vanco reinforced 92T tyres. Higher load rated tyres may now be available in 185 65 R 15? Although i had no issues with 88 rated tyres, they aren't correct for a bus, so don't buy them. I offered to give my 88T contis away for free, as long as they weren't going to be used on a bus. Buy tyres with the highest load rating you can for your size of wheel/tyre.
VW set the maximum axle loads and this from a’94 handbook might help. Or try https://brazilianvwbay.forumotion.com/
That’s really helpful thanks paulcalf and 77 Westy. Didn’t know this info was available for the Brazilian.Avon do a 92 load 185/65 so I think that’s a good brand. It used to be standard fit for Aston Martin so could probs cope with my 50bhp! Hope you get a bit more camper action this season! Hoping to go to Alyth this weekend unless our great leader bans travel. Thanks for the tips and info
See if you can get something that is labelled XL or reinforced, better than car tyres with the same load rating. Avon do 185 65 R15 92T XL as do many other brands
