Yes. It hangs on a case stud. It shouldn't be tightened more than 10 ft/lbs (I think) to avoid cracking the case so gawd knows how that happened.
Wow! That's odd. I've seen split case but never this. Very careful drilling up the shank of the bolt then peel out the rest, hopefully save the case.
That’s not the sump plug and it doesn’t unscrew; it’s part of and brazed to the oil pick-up pipe. Case split and a new pick-up pipe to repair properly.
That's the feller... its attached to the sump strainer pick up pipe set up and rattles about a bit.. but I thought you just undid the nut on the outside to get the stainer plate off and strainer out to give it a clean.. nut twisted straight off no effort.. Wasn't planning to split the case.. never done that before bur spose got to start sometime
There's a good collection of sediment on the plate but nothing to lumpy compared the the bits of metal I used to find on my beetle. ... guess that meant the filter works well
