Hi my dipstick tube rubber is leaking which is dripping onto my heat exchanger and causing smells and the occasional plume of smoke inside the cab through the heater pipes. I have tried a cable tie on one side but it is not doing the job. So I think I am going to remove the rubber clean the rubber and the tube and the silicone the little bugger to the tube. What do you reckon will this work ?
You sure it not split? Best way to fit these is to put a fuel hose clip on the fuller tube end and leave the thin end free. You can put a small fuel hose clip on this too but it's not really necessary. Is yours rubbery and supple or plasticky and hard? You should also check that your dipstick has a stopper on the end as your leak could be coming from here too I wouldn't use any sealants as you're likely to make matters worse
Cheers I will get a new one and give the fuel pipe clip a go. No felt washer on dipstick need to measure it and source one unless you have ready made solution ?
