  2. Nar it's the conny it's has offcuts just on the floor.

Hate the bloody thing, never understood the hype around conservatories

    Perfect for engine building.
Did mine in the dining room and it was a bit dark.
And the first one I did in the summerhouse/office down the garden, that was better.

  4. I think I may have an issue.

Dialed at 0 is with crack pushed back towards the flywheel 0.24 when pulled forward.

It's suppose to be a max of 0.04 right.

this is with the 3 original shims i had for the engine, just been playing with the dial indicator tonight still need to look up the correct tolerances for a type 4.

  6. all 3 shims are 0.35 each, but i have had to set up my dial indicator on a tile as my digital vernier caliper has broke.

  8. You're after 0.07 to 0.13mm float and shims go up to .38 so you can knock off another 0.09mm with 3 of them.. which is close...

  9. That was my initial though but still over that wear threshold.

It got removed due to oil leak which I later found up was from center of the flywheel, must of been getting past the shims and o ring into the needle bearing and slowly leaking from there.

  10. One idea i do have is use the 0.4 WBX shims, hoping they are the same size as the usual type 4.

  11. Think they're slighly smaller but I might be wrong

  12. Brickwerks suggests they' re ok for CU engines and as far as I know all type 4 cranks are same at the ends... so could be an option

Unlikely on a Type 4 but make sure the thrust bearing isn’t moving in the crankcase.

  15. Checked the thrust bearing no movement.

    *Stupid question*
Thrust bearing is one at the flywheel end?

  17. Solid as a rock, it's just crank movement.

@grandmst I have the 'communal' mix of type 4 shims that I can send you if you need them. I think most of them are in the thicker end. Happy to post and when your finished just put back the ones you didn't use and pass on to the next Latebayer.

  19. Thanks for the offer dude, but I bought some from brickwerks before your message.

If I find the 3 0.40 shims not up to scratch or to much I will let you know.

    Really appreciate it though

  20. She's all back in but has developed leaks from the cylinder heads on both sides which is irritating.

Think it's rocker strip down and re check the lower head torque, I know I did them right initially. [IMG][IMG]
