You lowered it. Part of that is severely limiting the amount of suspension movement. If the suspension doesn't move much there isn't much scope for bump steer.

  3. Maybe because the lowering debate has been done to death - many times - on here and elsewhere , the general concensus being it doesn`t really work (but folks won`t honestly say that wasting spending big money for `the look`) .
I think VW understand enough about steering geometry to get it right from the off and people seem surprised when they want to go down a few inches and it opens a can of worms so try all sorts of silly solutions - flipping tie rods for example . Listen to @Zed for the voice of reason , he`s been there and done that .

I know nothing - i am indeed an arse

    I'm an arse too!
I knew about all the problems but I did in fact ride roughshod over them and lower mine anyway. Some of us have to see for ourselves, I've never blindly taken advice in my life, I like to either understand or find out for myself.

Wise words posted by Zed and Lasty on lowering v stock height.

@rob.e has documented in great detail how he has lowered his bus and what components he used. It is a very informative thread too.

  6. Yes wise words taken from experience, but the question has never been should I lower my bus i was asking if anyone has done the track rod flip but instead of getting any advice on that I just got a lecture on the donts of lowering my bus. (Except zed who has given my info).

We can't help ourselves, the default position on this forum is to try and stop people from making expensive or possibly ill-considered mistakes. The more you resist, the harder we try!

  8. But the original question was has anyone used the flip kit not “should I lower my bus”
As for “vw understand enough about steering geometry “ then why do people bother to upgrade suspension on there performance cars? Why not leave it as say Ford made it. You don’t see many mk1 or mk2 escorts at standard height with standard suspension??

Fashion. The word "upgrade" is a sales tool. There are no end of "upgrade" parts in the vw air-cooled scene that cause nothing but problems.
A good example is an "upgraded" i.e. bigger, oil pump and "upgraded" oil bypass springs. These will stop the oil going round your oil cooler. The stock one's are just right.
"upgraded" anti-roll bar will unbalance your front/rear suspension and make your handling hairy.
    The list goes on. :)
Upgraded rear disc kit will lock your rears in the rain and cause the rear of your bus to overtake the front.

As long as you understand that in his grumpy way, even Lasty is trying to be helpful. I don't think there is a single unhelpful person posting on this forum.

  12. Everyone has been helpful with there opinions and experience’s . But I love my bus and doing things to it and just wanted other peoples experience of the flip kit. I didn’t come on here to be talked to like an arse I really don’t need that Marmite in my life at the moment
