World Snake Day is an important day when it comes to increasing awareness about the different species of snake all around the world. Snakes tend to have a negative connotation.

There are more than 3,500 species of a snake around the world. Of the 3,500 species of a snake around the world, there are only around 600 that are venomous. This is less than 20 percent of snakes. There are only 200 species of snake that pose a considerable risk to human life as well. Therefore, snakes are nowhere near as worrying or scary as we think they are.

    I remain unconvinced

Beautiful creatures. Seen a few in the wild, though thankfully not venomous ones

OMG, If there are 3,500 species snake, does that mean there are 3,500 different types of snake oil?

  4. In my time in the army I was often in places where snakes were around. In Bahrain there were lots of sea snakes fantastic colours but quite dangerous, Canada we had the rattle snake we all know about them from John Wayne.
In Hong Kong were dozens of species Banded Craits, green bamboo, pythons a lot were eaten in restaurants too but in Uganda there was the biggest gatherings.
Pythons, Gaboon vipers, Spitting cobras, lots of vipers but the most evillooking things were the mambas, they moved along and the body took every contour of the ground and the eyes were dark and just seemed fixed on you.
    Awful things.

We found the best form of defense was simply to leave them alone.
