Cheers dude It was en enjoyable brew especially as i did it from start to finish all in the pressure barrel
Our new house will have a shed specifically for brewing (sadly we aren't in there yet so this offer is no good to us...)
Dimbo question,Is it possible to put half in the barrel and half in bottles without buggering anything up?
sterilise the barrel Add the warmed can of home brew goo Add the specified amount of hot water Add the brewers sugar Fill to the level with cold water Stir it around loads getting the mix well airated Add yeast and put the lid on tight Pop it somewhere warm for the specified amount of time Add more brewers sugar to the specified amount and screw cap on tight Leave it somewhere warm for a few days again Then leave it somewhere dark and cool for two weeks Drink enjoy and try not to fall over I think thats right but thats just of the top of my head If you sanitise everything very well and follow the instructions to the letter you cant really go wrong Theres more steps you can take inbetween to get an even better brew but i found that way nice and simple and i got a decent beer reasonably quick
The next lot im doing ill do in a fermentation bucket then transfer to the pressure barrel for the secondry fermentation when you add more sugar Then ill steralise the bucket and start a fresh batch off that will then go into bottles Hopefully i wont of drank the first 40 pints before the second 40 pints is ready
You should be OK if you add sugar and let it ferment again in the barrel. The CO2 is what keeps it fresh and stops it oxidising, so either add gas or sugar. CO2 is heavier than air so what ever air you have in there should end up at the top.
Bottled a batch at the weekend using beer bottles and wine bottles i had left over from a failed attempt at wine making. Just in case anyone had the same idea as me , the plastic stoppers from wilcos keep (quite spectacularly )blowing out of the wine bottles during secondary fermentation.
just as well there blowing out... ! as you have bottle bombs there, wine bottles are not strong enough to secondary ferment beer in...
Doh! Just been to Wilkos - no brewing stuff on special offer. Though I've noted for future reference that the Woodford Wherrys is £2.50 cheaper than the local brew shop where I'd recently bought some ...
You can order alot of the stuff online still if it isn't in the store and you still get the discount and they will deliver it to the store free of charge or you can pay for delivery to your house
