  1. I had one similar about the same time, it was a plastic bag in a cardboard liner that was printed to look like a barrel, just add water. It was bloody awful.

  2. Ooh - good thread! I got a kit for Christmas, and we've just finished drinking my first brew (took a while to get started with it as we couldn't decide where the FV would live!). It was Coopers Dark Ale and turned out very nice  I've now got some John Bull London Porter on the go - secondary fermentation (in plastic bottles) should be finished this weekend. Brilliant. Hope it's as nice as the first lot (couldn't find any reviews on the HomeBrew forum which I joined).
    Yippee for cheap beer!! :burp:

  5. I've done a number of bucket brews over the years. The Woodforde's Wherry kit always comes out very drinkable :burp:

I'm currently in the process of moving from homebrewing to becoming a 'professional' micro-brewer :)

I went to the Great British Beer Festival last year, but it all felt a bit disjointed. Hopefully it'll be better this year as I think they're getting more space.

  6. Never done any beers but wines/ciders/meads/spirits, that's me! Ask anyone who has met me, firewater! Lol

  7. I've not done any brewing although I would like to give cider a go.

Sloe gin is my area of expertise (even if I say so myself!)

  9. Well, I'm pleased to report that the John Bull London Porter has been sampled and declared drinkable. Just had the one pint last night, but it went down well. It's a bit fizzier and a little less flavoursome than my first brew (Coopers Dark Ale) but I'll not let that get in the way of enjoying it!
Might try doing a Woodforde's Wherry as my next brew, following the recommendation above.

  10. Haven't brewed beer for over 20 years - not since a group of us were sitting around sampling the latest batch which we all though tasted very peculiar. After sipping and nodding sagely as beer types do a chap in the corner announced it probably tasted off because he had peed in the barrel of fermenting beer when he was drunk.

  11. My impression is that the kits have improved in the last 20 years. I moved onto cider using a press and fruit because I was disappointed with the beer I made 20 years ago. Only problem with fruit that is its seasonal so I went back to kits for the rest of the year, both cider and beer. The results have been good so far although I prefer more flavour from my cider so next batch ill be using two 40 pint kits in a 6 gallon keg
