tiny and stephen get there first project and its a 20 millionth edition

  2. to day i spent the time drilling out the spot welds on the NEW heaterchannels , and split them, as i thought completely bare metaled in side , no wonder these rust out in no time , . its time well spent splitting them , then i welded all the captive nuts as these have a habbit of spinning of ,i then brush painted everything with 3 coats of black paint then mixed some stone chip and paint and sprayed the too inside making sure ther was piles of paint and that it was running out turning then over and over , i then copper greased the captive nuts , to morrow ill weld back toghther owen nw

  5. to day the job of rewelding the heater channels back up , first clean of the paint around the original weld s ,, realine everything up and weld , then buff all down , i then mixed up some 2k black paint and painted the areas 3 times to m,ake sure it was all well sealed , then mixed up some more and stone chipp and blasted the in sides again making sure it sealed all the inside bay turning then arounda and round , the done the other door repairing the inner lip and making up a new outer lip , just some light filling now and make sure they are well sealed too owen nw tiny and steve :ninja

  6. to day my self and colm unbolted the 2 17mm nuts at the under side of the petrol tank and gently jacked the car up , so the heater channels could be slipped in , then we rebolted them all up to make sure everything lined up , i then tryed out my £5 hookeys alingment door tool i got on vzi , it s does what it designed for , i then repaired the front window and top door hindge panel , i ll start to weld up the panels as soon as i fitt some 50mm heater pipe to the channels , also finished the last bits on the doors to, owen nw colm

  8. to day my self and young colm got tore in again , ifrst fitt the new 50mm heater hose up the pillars both sides and clamp with a cir clipp , then cut the pillars to the final size and refiit the hooky tool , tack weld the post remove the tool and fit the door , shutting the door light checking the gapp , and weld the pillar to the heaterchannel , same on the ps side , then cut of the brasing barrs , rechecking the doors and adjusting whre needed , i then welded up the rest of the quarters and b posts ,finished of spraying any where that would be hidden when everything assembled owen nw colm tiny ,

  10. first had to recut some of the welds at the back of the ds quarter panel as the heater channel was sitting 5mm to low , so with the welds cut i jacked it up slightly then rewelded ,
    i then welded the captive nut on the new lower wing mounting panel ds as these can spinn of when tightening up the 13mm nuts , then welded it on to, i made up new lower inner wing to heater channel repair panel seam and plug welding then on to, i mixed up some black satin 2k paint as its all i had and brushed it into the joints inside the car between the new heater cchannel and new panels , it then poured out the gaps where i wanted the paint to go sealing them , and finished with a generious coats on the outer panels as well , owen nw an tiny

    to day we rebuilt the back cornersie heater channel end plates the job everyone hates , as well as rewelding on the carpet stripps , and any bits i found as i went along colm again done helper lol owen nw

  14. spent an hour this morning tiding up a few minor bits , so i over sized the repairs to make sure the rot has finaly gone, with a light skim of filler u can see it shape up owen nw

  15. That's looking good Owen, almost makes me want a Beetle. Just not one with all that welding to do. :( How much more have you got to do of the welding?
     
  16. thats not a lot of welding for one of these this is a gooden believe it or not , i have the 2 pieces either end of the rear inner wheel arches to make above the heater channel end plates , and repair the front bumper mounts thats basically it , o and replace the rar valance owen nw

  20. to day colm stripped the 2 doors of the cards handles etc , i stripped the chrome surronds and glass to find that there was 2 splitts in the top frame so a cut slots in the cracks and rewelded them up , them buffed the door edges as they had light rust and filled them and put a skimm on the bottom outer posts,also have a new panel to fix the bumper mount on the ps side as its iffy , and spot weld the front ds quater glass frame as it had split owen nw colm
