http://thelatebay.com/index.php?topic=237.msg99727#new reply number 175 page 9 of my van thread, i'm looking for the tin that goes above the push rod tubes over the fins, sorry i can't explain better i started one job and found a big can of worms....... also need the tin that seals the engine to the bottom of the exchangers although i'm told this isn't as urgent, i'm happy to be directed to new sales if you know any or if you have old pieces that can be patched etc? just give me a clue if you can help. should add it's a type 4 engine.
here is a post selling tin, can anyone identify any parts i need in the picture? http://thelatebay.com/index.php?topic=3899.0
thanks zed, and thanks for the p.m saying what i need to do to replace them, i didn't realise i will need to remove parts of the engine to get to them...not looking forward to that part.....i guess you're right though i'm lucky i didn't cook the engine a couple of weeks ago i ran for 4 hours non stop down the m6 and m5.....
Took me 3 years to find one of them and even that I needed to modify for one reason or another but I fear it wasn't for the US market. It's amazing how many different types there are. You may want to consider making one yourself.
yeah, i keep finding out that although us/cali vans may be rust free they are a bitch to find bits for...... oh, and edit....i can't make summat i don't know what looks like.....or do you mean the lower tin to the exchangers?
I was hoping to get the bus out tomorrow but the Ragtop is still in the shop because I broke the boot lock. I'll look for a picture of the bottom part. I'm assuming you're looking for the bit between the heat exchanger and engine?? If it is it is quite simple to make. It only directs heat out of the bottom rear of the engine if there or dumps it out if it's not. As mentioned it isn't "important" and many don't have it but it's nice to have it if only to protect the pushrods.
yes stu that part but i also am missing the important parts above the push rods according to zed and joker, look in my van thread or the thread where i asked for tin identification
just bumping this post to see if mr zed remembers to look for the tin, if not i'm deffo after it peeps.....
Thanks Zed tin arrived this morning, this thread is finished now (unless anyone has the rare tin that connects to the bottom of the engine) but i'm not as worried about that.
