The Subaru Engine Thread

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Pedro del monkeybike, Oct 27, 2016.

  1. My insurance went up but only about £15. I am very happy with my Subaru conversion and have said so many times. It would be more interesting to hear from someone who's had the conversion and regrets it.

At the end of the day it's engine size they go on, so very little impact.

  3. That's interesting to know I wonder what they would make of it if mine went from 1.7 to 2.0

  4. I've done that with no change. They did ask if it was still the original engine rather than a transplant, although I've no idea what difference that would have made.

Mine went from 1600 original to 2000 Subaru and apart from an admin fee they were pretty uninterested.

Mine went up no pounds and no pence.

Cherished just want engine number and an invoice to show it's been professionally fitted.

Fellows had a diesel Scooby in, customer had paid 6.5k just for the engine, the only wiring info they could get for it is in Japanese :D
Apparently the cranks are renowned for snapping on the diesels at 100k miles, with no economically viable fix !

  9. It seems the Subaru conversion is ideal for those who want to drive at motorway speeds over long distances
    Unless you're doing that I think it's a waste of money :)

    Define "waste"?
i had mine done years ago and would happily do it again. It makes the bus a pleasure to drive and after all, its only money.
It being only any good for long distances is clearly bo11ox. I'm just waiting for "should have bought a T5".

    Go British.

But you still will only have a dub shell so not a proper dub.

  12. I'm slowly coming round to the idea that a Scooby would allow me to do more with the bus. Its definitely on my list of things to do.

What makes you think that? Why isn’t a more powerful and economical engine also not ideal for those who want to drive at non-motorway speeds over short distances?

  14. Well you spend your money as you wish
Perhaps I should not of said that
If people think it's an improvement then that's up to them
My van had 1776 with twins went like a train
I then changed it back to stock 1600 and it gives me what I want
it stays VW I enjoy it for what it is and I'm happy with it :)

I'm really looking forward to getting mine. If we all thought the same things would be pretty boring :)
