The making of 'Beat Shed Studio'

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by marowak, Aug 10, 2011.

  1. So as many of you TLBers know I moved house recently and one of the reasons for moving was so I could set up a home music studio (and have a drive, garage, more rooms etc - but mostly a studio). We were lucky to find an amazing house with a 12ft x 8ft concrete shed which is going to become 'Beat Shed Studio'.

Well, now the house is all in order my focus has shifted to building my studio. I wanted to share the build with you TLBers in a kind of 'show us your ride / restoration thread' manner.

From the outside it looks like this:

It is protected by this little guy (and 3 locks with more to be added):

The inside looked like this last week:

And the work began to create 'a room within a room' - so first the batons which have been fixed to the walls with grip fix:

Next the wiring was put in place for the electricity and lights:

And then today the panels started to go up onto the batons:

Still a long way to go and I will keep this updated if any of you are interested. The plan is to make it fully soundproof (or as good as possible within reason).

The next stages are get the plugs and lights in - finish the paneling - build the room roof (add loft insulation ontop) - lay the floor - and then once all the shell is done I will be fixing 32 acoustic foam tiles....

  2. Good work
Do you want some egg boxes saving ;D

  3. erm .. thanks for the offer but no - i am buying proper acoustic foam ... (but i am sure egg boxes would be a lot cheaper!)

  9. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I had one in my cellar. Then the kids took it over for real instruments - no room for my stuff with drum kit, amps, PA... Now it's like the Mary Celeste - most of the gear still down there but nobody uses it.

looks good buddy, why didnt you insulate between the concrete and ply? BandQ are doing 5.5m2 of insulation for £3 at the mo!!!

  11. i really should update this properly.

dog - i left the gap between the panels and the shed so air could circulate around - that and air itself is a good noise insulator.

it's all finished now and i spend a lot of time out there (well 2 nights a week).

i have finished mixing atplp2 and have been using it to edit the Wiseman Goes Wild videos and edit some new videos for my singles which will be out next year.

I have also had a few 'famous' people come round to record and hope to have more soon.
