Don't encourage him. He's only trying to get it off me for his new house!;)

For those regular occasions where I want all my camping gear lobbed around the place because I've decided I need to drive a lorry over rough terrain :)

For the rest of the time...slow, loud and heavy on fuel.

I kind of imagine most owners of those are either endlessly peering out the window praying for snow or other adverse weather...or hanging about with Landrover owners banging on about how capable it is for what it is.

I was thinking about Louey's Transit at TE - great to sit about in, half the site were in there when it was raining, but not something I'd want myself.

You think too small. I'm going to think of you as bijou Steve soon.

I agree, I like Malc's too......I've concluded I hate driving these days, I travel a lot so it's now about getting there quickly, wherever there is.

Anything that looks slow and a pain in the arse to drive has no appeal.

I'll footnote that with I need to drive my van more to get the vibe.....I do like driving it now, with the newer engine.

 You know I'm just poking with a stick.
Yes and no. Yes in Wales where it always rains.
I think there are 2 types of camping.
    1) Cheap, comfortable accomodation while you visit an area and do things - great for that. So is a caravan. I struggle to see the difference apart from a caravan gives you the excuse to also buy a large pikeymobile.
    2) Pure camping when it's more about being outside, BBQ's and stuff. Tents and teeny T2's.
    I'm a number two. I will wish I hadn't typed that!

I think it's partly it's size to be sure, it just seems like such a huge thing.
I will admit I only really still have a van because I like taking it to pieces and messing with it. I really don't camp much and after a long weekend I'm glad to be home.
I don't think @snotty ever goes camping in his, so it's not just me. :)

Edit to add - I enjoy driving in it, sitting in the sun for a day out etc, it's really a day van + overnight when it's more convenient than going home.

They are extremely popular with people who go overlanding. I have friend doing a world trip in one at this present time. He did have a sort of blog going on some forum or other. He emailed me from China a few weeks ago and said he has picked up a couple of backpacking ladies. Seems like he is enjoying himself too much.

I suppose it's good advertising for your bus repair shop too.

Now if you had the foresight to have invested in a cheap motor home at some point in the past.....

  14. Yep, a day van that I enjoy taking to pieces (although I'm tiring of that). I've overnighted in it twice. Mostly used to hump building materials around. There's nowt wrong with you ;)...

The thing that keeps me going is that at work I basically do mostly the hard dirty things that are a bit much on your drive in the rain. With mine I get to pick what I do which provides a bit of light relief. I probably moaned on a fair bit but I've enjoyed building my engine. Particularly looking back now it's done and dusted. Same with the interior, lowering, raising it back, servo addition... I'm running out of fun things to do to it though. Next year will be start at the beginning with a narrowboat at which point I suppose it would make sense not to also have a camper to maintain.

I like working on the doka. It's an hobby, but I can't wait to get it done and buy a tintop day van to play with.

You would need to get away from the boat too Steve.

Can I not simply untie the ropes and motor off somewhere else?
Holidays without leaving your home? Off to the middle of nowhere for a break to chill, or somewhere pwetty for a few pints? I think the novelty will last a while.
The home I feel the need to escape from is stuck somewhere I don't like, it's not just all the things you ought to do staring at you. House maintanence is dull though and there's a feck of a lot of it. I look forward to shrinking the job pile - no more garden, just the countryside at my door. I can pitch up and live in many places I'd never be able to afford to live for starters.
