  2. Its a big outlay for a paint job. But the paint for my mgb cost 4,000 back in 2004 when it had a full ground up restoration. The paint is still perfect with no bubbling or rust anywhere.

Why not get a few quotes and get testimonials or evidence of their work. After all it is a large sum.

My van had new paint when I bought it and judging by the resto photos, it was a long job as vanorak says, from metal panels to finished top coat.

I've seen a few body shops too and most of them near me look a bit rough and seem to do mostly insurance repairs. Best one I saw was in Stonegate, East Sussex which specialises in Morris Minors. They turn out fantastic resto vehicles and have the proper booths and ovens. But they are not cheap.

I think it also depends if you are going to keep your van or sell it on after completion.

My van now shows signs of bubbling here and there and the PO probably went for a cheaper job. Whereas my mbg had the best and it still looks brand new and holds its value.

  4. Yeah honestly the finish is glass like.. Have to say there is the odd bit that they were pulled up on and it went back in to the booth but the main thing was firstly the job had a quality metal man on it and an old school old boy doing the spraying... The boy knew his craft that was for sure.. In the end the price was slightly more than I expected which got my back up before I saw the bus on the ramps... When I saw it I also saw all the other 'bits' that they had sorted which I had not even noticed.. So walked out the shop beaming...

Bank balance still a tad sore but the bus looks mint now :)

  5. Yeah totally agree that the work is done before the paint actually goes on... If the metal is wrong the issue is just going to come back finally...

Thanks for the kind comments as well.. Appreciate that

  11. Yes definitely interested the name rings a bell I'm sure the guy from the van works which is based in the Oldham area mentioned them.
My van also went on the back burner for a while but in the last week or two I've flagged, stoned chipped and sprayed the underside. Lowered it and fitted all new running gear. The van is being delivered back to me next Tuesday as the ramp I've been using is booked up so from then on it will be sat waiting for a good body shop.

  12. Reading that post I will defo PM...

  13. Looking nice :)

  14. New paint and running gear on the underside

  15. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Mathew, you better make sure the paint shop understand in no uncertain terms that overspray underneath is a no-no. :)
