"The Bug"

Luckily I have access to a ramp and compressed air for short periods of time. Maybe a couple of hours max. This should allow me to spray under sealer once I’m back on the road.

 

Something like this maybe ^^^. Doesn’t need a primer. Hard wearing. Cheap enough to slap on nice and thick.

 

Paints4trade appears to have a good selection and also seem to be the best on price. Rust converter then high zinc primer then chassis black.

 

Finally started a long overdue tidy up of old bug. It’s been my winter transport for a few years now. The wings are basically just held together by paint. Hopefully solid inner wings. Will update as I go. It needs to be back on the road before winter.

 

Taking full advantage of wife being away with mates for 4 days. Pleasantly surprised with inner wings. Might require a couple of holes welded up.

 

I think them wings are past their best..

 

Full day on it tomorrow. This ain’t gonna be some full on resto. Got a set of wings for free so will try them for fit. Good clean and paint then hopefully off to a body shop for repainting.

 

They are the original wings from 1976. I painted them in the early 90s.

Those USA spec late bumpers must weigh 500kg each. I recon i could get an extra 10mpg if I leave them off

 

You have to get one. I’ve never been without since I was 16. 1985. I love every minute of driving it

 

Making steady progress. Hoping to get new wings on this weekend.

 

Can’t believe how good it’s lasted considering it’s kept outside and mainly used as a winter vehicle.
