Finished up paint. Baked it with the sun warming it under a dark tarp.

Went to put the new heated windscreen in.. with a BBT branded seal.. expected grief like with the JK replacement I had before (about 2 or 3mm too tall so it never went in properly)

Put in the sealant for the electric heater wiring in the glass slot. Used some 3mm cord to pull in the inner lip of the seal. The screen just popped in. Shock horror !

+1 to Ricky Evans for making the glass the correct size.

Then spent ages cleaning off the excess sealant.

  3. 14A's not bad, not on for long! Has it got two elements?

    Yes , one each side.
I havent done the wiring yet, I await a pair of Shenzen's finest push button switches with red LED rings..
I have a bag of relays that will do, some 4mm2 wire and either NE555 timers or a smart version that checks the battery voltage before putting the heater on for a certain time.

  5. Are you going to run a dedicated supply from the battery?

Got the petrol tank back in yesterday.

Noticed the fuel hose has lost some if it’s suppleness. Pretty easy to change but will do just to get him up and running again.

    MoT booked for Thursday.

Gettin close to being able to bring him now :)

I suppose gluing will keep the wet out but you really should treat yourself to a mig welder. It's actually fun and not that difficult. :)

Yes, I have 10 metres of 4mm2 wire, its one reason I havent wired it up yet.

    Lights work - check.
    Fridge works - check.
Eber works but not the thermostat - must check previous thread on how to test that... tomorrow.
Radio no power, I'll have to rummage under the dash... tomorrow.

Courtesy of the Curdridge Chaos Collective.

After going to Techenders and another 100 miles of driving .. three of the exhaust manifold nuts were finger tight. And somebody not me managed to mess up fitting an exhaust clamp.. missed the tapered washer. ..

And before TE I recovered my dipstick from behind their workbench, and a few other items that didnt make it back onto my bus, when I went back to claim my consolation prize foam seal after not me fitted it badly...

    @davidoft will understand..

    Slightly disappointing...

I would be happier if they had done the same as before.

I found the braiding on the oil hoses all over the place too. And my original jubilee clips slid down the braiding and left there.

Even my lightning fix-ups end up with fewer bits lying around.

I should have just bought another jerry can to match the one I already have in case there was 50L of fuel in there. (actually about 10L and rusty sludge) and a proper fuel transfer pump through a filter, and a new fuel tank..

Overall to do the whole job I would have spent about 4 times the time I have so far spent fixing up the results of the work that I paid to have done. About 2 days overall.

Tonight, I had to pull the rear tin, do up the loose nuts - they were doing in my head for a while, because if I touched them with a 12mm spanner they moved, but they are actually 13mm..

A quick drive to Tescos for more fuel, it sounds like I have tightened it up properly.

Not exactly defending, but it doesn't pay to make people work to a deadline on an old bus. I used to hate having someone standing over me waiting for me to finish so they could head off directly on holiday! No pressure then!

Fair enough .. I didnt pressurise them much though.. gave them three days to do a job they estimated to take one day. It took two days because they needed a few more parts. Like a clutch release bearing that was rough, not part of the original job.

I was prepared to not make it to TE so I wasnt forever phoning them up.
