To be honest, it's been a bit of an issue since I bought them - I think maybe just slightly too thick as the clips seemed to want to slice into them rather than clip over the edge of the hole.
One door card needs to come off to fix the window that no longer goes down, and realistically the other needs to come off to address the issue of the opening quarter light that needs re-riveting so it actually closes properly.
maybe now is the time to sort the door cards as well....

There are 2 sizes of holes in the doors and 2 sizes of clips to suit. I think you can only get the wider ones now so you have to cherish the older thinner ones. I gathered them over the years TBH.
JK used to sell self cover cards that were too thick for the clips they sold with them - barstewards! Ply is too thick as well (3.6mm). It's a problem, I can understand why one might screw the cards on in frustration, but for me I'd rather gather together parts that look original for the cab no matter how annoying it gets! Stock vehicle but anything goes for the camper interior is my "rule". :)

  3. Ok, thinner ones you say, well, that's a start :hattip:

I have no idea whether this is correct or true, as I have grown sceptical over my years of Bay ownership....
but C&C reckon they produce the correct 'smaller' ones

I know there are definitely two sizes, as I have a mixture of original and repro on mine at the moment.

  5. Be interested in your progress and what you decide to do.

I vote with Steve on this one, the screws just don't quite look right, to me, apologies Snotts.

I do accept they may make life easier. Which is odd, when you think about it, as the factory presumably went with clips on the production line as the cards would go into the Bus quicker, with a few well aimed taps.

  6. Got to be worth a punt for 34p each, probably cost more in postage for a dozen.

you need 46 for the two cards though!! *mental maths* *cogs whirring* *hamster scurrying furiously on its wheel* £15.64
    but if they work properly.....

Edit: I've just looked at JK for the normal type, and they would be £14.50 for 50 so actually it's no more expensive. Doh!

Where they spring together the prongs hit stops - the smaller ones have one stop for both prongs, the wider ones have a stop for each prong.
    So - good find at C & C.

  9. I'd be tempted to limit any loss by buying a few first to see if they really are any good.

My experience with C&C over the ever expanding silicon rocker cover gaskets was they seem to be a bit bullish when it comes to returns. (And count up your decent clips first, no point in replacing those, is there?).

Edit just seen Steve's post so perhaps a full set minus any reusable ones now makes sense.

Being a skinflint, I found out a few days ago that I could use fatties by jumping one of the prongs past it's stop. I had to use a couple like that to make up the numbers but I wouldn't be happy doing that to every clip. Alternatively, barring the rust possibilities, you could drill the holes out to a larger size, but that would be vandalism in my book. :)

  11. When I did my door cards the other week I bought 25 from Coolair to make up for some rusty and bent ones off the old cards so now I have a mix of old and new. They were the bigger ones if I recall but I managed to wrestle them in sufficiently to firmly hold the cards in place.

They are 24p each if you buy 25 or 15p for 50. They do the smaller 6mm ones but for some reason they are noticeably more expensive:thinking:

..now it gets me thinking if anyone ever tried to carefully remove them original vinyl from old door cards and reglued them onto the newly cut plywood pieces?..it’s probably impossible without damaging them but..just thinking…

If you read the thread, yes, I've done this a lot, most recently last week. :)

50+ year old vinyl from a delux prototype bay...
I did the cab doors the same way but can't find a picture.

JK cards when they were new. I did these again last week and you'll have to believe me that they look exactly the same now.

Something 3mm thick so the clips fit. I went for hardboard ready made ones, at £18 each. Ply is supposed to be 1/8" (3.125mm) which should be ok but in my experience always seems thicker.

  19. They are truly horrible things. My doors have carpet wrapped around the edge, which looks vaiiir nice, and they're not really up to the job anyway. Best to get the pliers out.

On with the flange heads! You barely notice them.

    a newy2 door card 6s.jpg

They're No 10 x 10mm. Drill some holes when the door card's on with a 3.2mm bit. Get them from fleaBay, or buy a selection box to share with your friends and family?
