Did compression test this morning after the 12mm extended adapter arrived yesterday. Must be doing something wrong as it was probably the most awkward job I've done on any vehicle for a long time. Anyway, cold and dry they were 120, 130, 120, 130 from 1 to 4, with an accuracy of maybe +/- 5 psi on my gauge. Not worth doing a leakdown I don't think. Thought I'd check compressions as it chucked about 1/4 litre of oil into the catch tank going to and from TE last weekend - about 160 miles. Will stop there and not go looking for trouble :)

I had one for Christmas, we’re going to try it out next week, any tips gratefully received!

  11. Sounds more and more like a Beetle engine to me, and I would hazard a guess at a blocked breather somewhere.

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Personally, if god forbid I had a catch tank, I would have it plumbed so the oil drains back into the case, otherwise what's the point having one?

We love ours. A few tips we learnt, don't start off at blast furnace levels....it heats quickly. Turn often but not when full of liquid, not completely sealed! Great for burgers etc but forthwhile opening after turns to let steam escapee to allow frying rather than too much steam. Hope that helps.

parts has been crimping the tins back together.

  17. I have thus job to do this winter, refurb my exchangers, any tips?

  18. Sure. They are thin metal but can be welded. Mine were rusty where the the exhaust pipes exit. Check fit with the exchangers as you go. Back up welding with copper. I put a couple spot welds along the crimps after putting it together just to make sure they wouldn’t open up with all the vibration.

It was a slow and fiddly job for me which I did little by little. More of a fun project for me as I have j pipes, a gas heater and I don’t drive in the winter.

  19. Impressed with mine
First time used it the handle button popped out, a replacement arrived virtually the next day
