Start soaking those M6 Philips screws in penetrating oil. Sometimes they come out ok, sometimes they don't. I always use a hammer on an extractor to shock them out. Very occasionally they break..not a good look.

If the 'smiley' washers fall apart pm me and I'll stick some second hand ones in an envelope for you. They are a convex spring washer that hold the adjusting ring locking cover (cookie thing) in place.

Have you done the oilite bush that supports the starter motor?
Now is the best time and sooooo easy to do. Best 2 quid you'll spend at this time...

  5. I thought you were going to ask what colour it was painted :p

Camping in a tent is no fun at your age; if you sell Daphne you'll just end up replacing her with a Mazda Bongo in a year's time when your camp bed collapses and you run out of meths for your trangia. And where else can you get this level of random abuse if not on TLB? *shakes head despairingly*

  13. Surely it’s the meths that keeps you warm? Works for me

At least with a Trangia you have meths. The French "alcool a bruler" is better it smells very like brandy and its light brown in colour. Might try a taste one day..

When my gearbox was that filthy the lip seal for the drive shaft cup had gone. Years later that filth is still protecting the underside of my bus from rot.
The drive shaft cup should not wobble. Mine did. Hence the leaky seal. Once they get old and hard, any vibration defeats them.
You are NOT meant to touch the adjustment unless you are a demi-god equipped with a toolbox of arcane tools and fixtures for measurement.
However... a tiny tightening and it stopped wobbling. At a guess about a thousandth of an inch or less of added preload on the roller bearings inside.. if it had carried on wobbling.. another recon gearbox would have been on the cards.

  16. Possibly is brandy of sorts, highly distilled French wine lake?

  17. Have you seen the price of a full Trangia set these days?

I came over all unnecessary at the thought of spending that much at once ;)

I bought my Trangis in 19something.... Proper stuff, aluminium pans nicely cleaned by tomato sauce to aid early dementia.

Edit:- Forgot to say, took camper into Terry's Beetle Services for wheel bearings and CV joints.
