  2. Bit damp inside the van so have put the dehumidifier and a heater on, hopefully that will dry it out a little.

My scoop is a bit deeper but.made out of 0.5mm stainless. It has been squashed at the garage once and I have caught it on something once, found it had a slight dent in the middle. Its thin enough to rip off without losing the cooler. Havent needed a fan. The cooler is mounted almost horizontally, but the oil unions are definitely the low point of the cooler.

Discovered the passenger door latch is really stiff and has maybe lost a spring. I was to be found putting 3 in 1 oil on it when stopped in Bristol this morning.
Its clickier but it needs the 10 year old too stiff door rubber to pop it open.

Oiled the passenger door catch, seems to have restored its springiness. Discovered the bottom of the door is full of oily fluff and leaves.

Bought a new starter battery. The old one was able to start the bus if it was going to start first time, then maybe it might catch .. or not.
First of all I slapped in an old starter battery from a diesel car, this worked better , starting and driving around the other day.
My usual float/maintenance battery charger (maxes out at 14.2 volts , zero current) has decided to keep on popping the mains breaker, so I was using another smart charger instead. As I was using the ex-diesel starter battery in the bus for the stereo while I work from home in it, I decided to connect the smart charger to top up the battery.
After a couple of hours, I noticed the current was increasing rather than falling.
Opened up the engine hatch and I could hear the starter battery bubbling away and it was warm to the touch. I disconnected the charger and the voltage dropped back to 9 volts overnight.
Shorted cells which happened while it was on charge yesterday and so it was a candidate for going up in smoke as the charger was able to get the battery to 14.8 volts at 9 amps charge current, as it mistakenly went into absorbtion mode..

Swapped back the previous bus starter battery, the bus started and drove OK today going to the shops.

So the diesel starter battery was binned and a new battery was bought and fitted today. Just as well, the instruction booklet had decided to finally fall off the battery (stuck hiding round the back for years) and was found well on its way to the fan.

  18. Erm..no, no I don't. Much the same as I don't need a gold gearbox, actually no one "needs" a gold gearbox.

  19. I beg to differ, Sir
