  1. I have
Swapped distributor to spare, points and condensor, new coil.

    I know its nothing ignition.

Cleaned jets in carb and ensured clean and free of muck.

I'm waiting for a village garage to open to see if he'll sell me some wd40 or carb cleaner to check for leaks, as I'm not 100% what's going on

Gulp of rust from petrol tank clogged filter? Happened to me 2 weeks back

  3. If you pull off the fuel line and turn it over, does the fuel spurt out then?

  4. I've had a look at the filter and it's relatively clean, I'm gonna take it off and empty it of anything in there and make sure nothing is in the 5.5mm pipe that I cant see

Yep, it was my 5mm pipe that was blocked

Worth noting that if you do get it running you’ll need to retime it when you get a chance. After fitting points in place of Petronix mine was well out

  7. I have left marks on the distributor clamps for both electronic ignition and points.

I can get it close enough and hopefully will be fine to get me out of this pickle

  8. No. But they have arranged a long overflow queuing system around a nearby car park and have attendants managing the flow. Only half the parking bays are open.

@mikedjames @its ted If you want anything on the C&C website add it to your basket but don’t check out.

Then leave the site and you get a pop up offering you between 5% or 10% discount ;)

Cut and paste the code into the box at checkout and hey presto.

It helps justify those shiny wipers

  10. Will look into this now. Currently brewing some fine layby coffee and we'll see what I can sort

A mechanic sorted mine out as it was in for other engine work at the time.

He diagnosed this by either side of the fuel filter. When pipe was removed on filter exit flow was slow. When pipe removed to filter feed was also slow. The cylindrical metal gauze pipe upstream, near the tank, I think, was blocked up. Cleared this and flow was strong again

If it only works when you pump the throttle you are making it run off the pool of petrol from the accelerator jet.

The accelerator pump sucks from the very bottom of the fuel bowl in the carb., while the other jets rely on the fuel being at the right level in the bowl so the airflow sucks the fuel up when its running .

If its a stock 1600 - Look hard at the carburettor, check the little cover disc beside the throttle cable hasnt popped off the back of the carburettor. Also look at the manifold boots .. you might have had a backfire that popped them.

Check the pin in the base of the fuel pump is still present, they do fall out, you might have been running gravity fed and now the tank level has run too low for petrol to flow up to the carburettor. A screw or a nail can fix that.

  13. Thank you very much! I will check all

Is that checking fuel feed from the tank?
Fuel ought to be running out of the disconnected pump input hose while you took that picture ...

  16. Yes, I've took all pipes off and cleared out by pushing spare throttle cable end through.

Still the same, but idling but as soon as I rev it decides to die.

Off to find carb cleaner etc to check leaks on boots and manifold to head...

Ive exhausted most of my knowledge

  17. Keep at it, fingers crossed.

  18. Zed

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

I don't think an air leak preventing it revving would allow it to idle ok.
    Something else...

  20. Engine starts, have to pump gas.

Moment I stop pumping gas or too much it just dies
