A bit of spit and polish ready for the night crossing to Portsmouth and then on up to Yorkshire.

Yesterday I drained all the fuel from my bus into a jerry can as it still seemed to be losing fuel fast even though it wasnt reaching the road, didnt seem to be leaking.
A 15 mile round trip had me scared of running out.

Now I know there is 10 litres left when the needle is on empty ( I have an under reading gauge)

I think I lost maybe 15 to 20 litres as the leak varied in speed until it got so fast I noticed it. It was leaking forward of the fire wall, was driving round town so the exhaust never got really hot.

When the bus was parked I think it was soaking into some leaves under the bus so the leak did not leave a mark.

It was only after driving it for 7 miles I stopped on concrete and then the drips were coming fast.

I have little sense of smell and cant smell petrol but can taste it..

I'll give a toot on the air horns if I see that distinctive number plate out and about Nick

Coincidentally, I did the same, but it doesn’t quite look as good as yours, Yet!

She’s work in progress bodywork wise, but drives like a dream :)

The pump runs while cranking and while the ignition is pulsing without a wire from the starter motor ignition switch terminal.
What is doesn’t do with the 123 distributor is run the pump to prime the carbs as soon as the ignition is switched on. But as the engine starts without any problem, I’m not worried about it.

Yes but the leak is upstream of the solenoid valve. Its the tank spigot. There was just enough left to clamp the hose on but I think it rotted some more.

I didnt change it because in the past I didnt have enough fuel storage to empty the tank when I went to change the fuel lines about 2 years ago.

Anyway its waiting for the spare spigot to arrive today or Monday.

  16. Ah, sorry, the penny rolled slowly. I bought my Jerry can from Wavian, really nice quality and perfect for draining a tank into.

  18. So, this week I have been mainly fixing some hidden rust! The passenger seat belt anchor was surprisingly soft and we actually just pulled it out with a chunk of rust. So lucky to have a mate with Arc welding skills and time to help!

Not even in the usual rot place under the rubber mat on top of the wheel arch !

PS there should really be a reinforcing plate with a 5/16" ? Seatbelt fixing nut on it welded to the panel as a seatbelt attachment point. Can find them on eBay sold for motor sport
