Struggled with trying to sort out fitting the gear shift and finding all gears at first. Then I found the problem. The gearshift rod I bought from JK was nowhere near the same as the original.

Top one is the manky welded up original.
The white one was part of a job lot I bought but the slot for the gear lever pin is a bit worn.
Bottom one is from JK - I added the left hand bend in it as it was straight.

JK one is 3/4inch too long. Redrilled the 8mm hole for the locking screw.

And chopped it down a bit

Back in, adjust the plate and got all gears including reverse - result! And the reversing lights work :D

It's possibly supplied extra long for people to put more of a bend in it to clear their beam adjusters? I'm being kind to JK.

I found out after trying everything there are 2 lengths of that tube used on vans
I had a long one and just drilled a hole further back so the ball was in the middle of the hole in the floor when in neutral.

On the M4. At 65mph the oil is up to 108 degrees climbing from the A34 to Membury.

  7. Have you fixed the Pug ??

  9. Probably is Steve's fault ;)

Here's the Hoover bit (bit 18). Stops oil cooler air spilling out of the bottom of the doghouse. They usually rot away or go missing. Repros are available.

Velocity rings steady the air going into the fan shroud. I'd think they were mumbo-jumbo, but VW themselves incoporated them into later fan shrouds (on injected Beetles, I believe). @paradox has got a real one. They definitely have an effect. Getting pricey now - used to be about £35, but CSP will charge you 75 euros for one.

I'd recommend fitting both on a type 1

  11. Worth doing IMHO if you ever have the engine out again.

  12. It needs to come out at some point to replace the crank oil seal so i`ll add them to the list
