There were some nasty stains on the cover in the back of the Westy, probably from a leaking rear window or hatch seal. It was there when we got the bus and have been reluctant to wash the cover in case it all went wrong...it's the original cloth cover. We have tried this Pink stuff stain removal and are impressed....other stain removers are available! 20250703_170736.jpg 20250703_170902.jpg

To be fair the stains were black, as in muck, and along the back edge adjacent to the back hatch/window. They have gone now.

Crossed fingers, legs, arms , toes , scrotum and tried to start it . Returning to the van last night at closing time I was met by the sidelights dimly glowing in protest having being left on since midday - 11 hours

Only took a couple of (sluggish) spins and off it went , blummin lovely old gal

Sat and looked at my Honda VFR 800 throttle bodies and scratched at some of the pipework and discovered its brazed steel.

And now I know what the brazing kit I just bought will be used for- welding nuts on for banjo bolts to replace a 10cm chunk of solid pipe wedged across the motorbike V4 cylinder head.. on the bus those throttle bodies will be up on IDF manifolds so it needs more like a metre of hose there...

I was brazing because the pipe from the fuel injection pump had cracked on one of our HDIs and it appears to have been hard to obtain in 2012... fortunately the crack appears to have been under a metal sleeve so I brazed the sleeve onto the pipe. First attempt refitting it leaked like crazy, the second time its holding...maybe get an MOT on the 24 year old car..
However without an MOT I cant test it at 1800 bar by driving hard so there may be a surprise yellow taxi ahead..

  15. 1,800 bar is 17,500 psi. Slightly excessive.

Thats old school, apparently later on as the engine was developed, the pressure on some HDI fuel rails reaches 2200 bar.

After all it has to be able to inject multiple fuel pulses around TDC into the cylinder in a diesel where fuel is already burning. The pipe walls are only about 3mm thick.

Swore at the dynamo. Camped in it.
