Nicked this from Facebook, NOT my words but fairly apt

First of all I respect the science, the evidence, I'm not denying that man hasn't played his part in global warming.... But....
That Greta Thornbird or whatever she calls herself needs to shut up.
Stands there blaming "our" generation (me and others of my age I presume) for stealing her dreams and ruining the world.
Firstly Greta "our" generation didn't have ipads, iphones, laptops, gap years, jetting all over the planet on their holier than thou, powered by pixie farts jets.
Secondly, all those batteries that power your devices when your not plugged into the main grid are terrible for the environment, not just the destruction of habitat, to make them, but the desposal is very tricky as well...
Also let's not forget your yacht you sailed to The USA on... Carbon fibre, apparently 6 times harder to manufacture than steel.... Mmmmm... Then there is the question of that big old diesel engine on board... Then the crew which were flown transatlantic after... Super green credentials there, maybe you could offset that by planting some polar bears or recycling the tears of small children who we've doomed.
Then let's get onto all these marches, why take people out of school, do it on a Saturday, or would that clash with a weekend skiing on those mountains that we've thawed out.
When we were young Greta we didn't stay in all day, burning power, watching TV, playing mind warping games, going on the Internet to tell everyone how angry we was...... No...
We climbed trees, skinned our shins, rode bikes everywhere, we didn't get taxi rides from mum and dad to every single person we knew... God forbid they couldn't afford the fuel...
Pop bottles were glass, we hit ten pence to return them, no plastic bottles...
To the best of my knowledge 50 years ago mass produced solar or wind power wasn't an option, so it was gas or coal... to produce our power. We didn't make those rules we were too busy going to work to pay bills and feed a family to come up with alternative power sources.
We didn't go clothes shopping every payday, we went to jumble sales with our mums or wore hand me downs, again recycling,
We didn't have an insatiable appetite for every latest piece of tech, thus spurring on the headlong charge into waste and unnecessary product replacement.
We didn't have money for a takeaway, we had homecooked food, maybe the odd chip supper, served in newspaper, again recycling....
All these fast food chains have appeared relatively recently, all using man-made products, and don't forget the meat, every time someone eats a quarter pounder with cheese the sea level rises three feet and a baby koala drowns.
I think on balance your generation need a check up from the neck up... Self centered, greedy, air of automatic entitlement etc..
I learned about the environment from my farming family, Johnny Morris, David Bellamy, Sir David Attenborough....so you see, you're not the only person who cares, we all do, just that we don't do it growling at the President of the USA, or spitting vitriol at the very people you expect help from.
Oh by the way, you're welcome,
    PS
Whoever is pulling your chain, writing your speeches, backing you, the truth will come out, there's always an agenda,

thats laughable not triggering by any means ... snowflakes always comeback with the bullying argument.. Its simply a fact that shes prodded by another source FFS her mother claims that she smells the CO2 in the atmosphere... and hears the climate screaming !! Smacks of faith healing and religion.. If your gullible enough you buy it .. and if you dont buy it your triggered LOL

we had 3 warm days this summer unprecedented so they say,, Funny enough when I was a kid it was warm and sunny the ENTIRE summer .. I guess its took 50 years to catch up and melt the icebergs .. How does a floating mass of ice increase sea level when it melts ? as a mass it has the same volume and displaces the same amount of water as it weighs .. so if it melts entirely it wont raise sea levels .. .. sea level will remain the same .. Different matter if the Antarctic was to melt but thats doing OK, so much so the former ice stations are now covered in ice and the new one is on a jackable platform so they can jack it up as the ice gets thicker ... Despite the ice melting in the North pole The only footage they show is the same chunk of ice falling into the sea.. as they forget to tell you that was filmed in the spring thaw.. yep there are seasons in the North Pole , rivers run across the ice as it melts... then comes winter and it freezes again.. As it has done since the actual land mass has been covered.. Guess what its not always been covered in Ice .. Its been the subject of climate change for 4 billion years, the same as the rest of the planet .. its called a cycle .. Humans wont be here forever , were weak and dispensable, in a while we will all be gone, just like the dinosaur..

Oh and Polar bears, great pic of a skinny (starving) polar bear floating on a chunk of ice.. Reality is that Polar bears float around on chunks of ice, to get to them they swim and clamber on, a wet polar bear is like a wet cat .. they look lovely and cuddly then dry when they get wet the look scrawny and emaciated .. The polar bears are doing well so well infact that there is competition for food .. hence starving polar bears, usually the old and injured ones.. But never let the truth get in the way of emotional blackmail.. :)

  6. I have no idea whether the undeniable climate change is natural cycle or man made, or perhaps both. We do know that pollution impacts on the earth's eco systems and we also know that nature has a remarkable resilience to recover, in time. maybe we are running out of that time, maybe we already have, maybe not - even the scientists can't agree.

but i really don't understand why someone calling for improving the quality of life on this planet should be decried nor why this is upsetting for a seemingly lot of middle-aged men.

It doesn’t upset me in the slightest.
I just think she’s being played and it’s embarrassing to watch.

  8. i honestly don't see that at all. when i watch her i'm not embarrassed for her, i just want to be able to try and alleviate her fears.

Did you see the tears and tantrums speech?

Don’t get me wrong I’m sure SHE has all good intentions. Unfortunately she’s becoming a puppet imho.

  10. i did, it made me cry.
she was lambasted for her lack of emotion previously, which i took as symptomatic of her Asperger's, and when she shows emotion she is criticised further. thankfully i think she's strong enough to rise above it but i do feel that she shouldn't have to.

  11. Maybe she is trying to get her generation interested in the issue. Its going to be their problem after all.

  12. a puppet for who? i've known some incredibly intelligent 16 year olds (and at least two of those were on the spectrum) and nobody assumed that they were puppets or that their ideas weren't their own.

  13. The main trouble is as humans we have wanted more and more ,not content . But nature will sort us out or the war that we make with one another over it will. I’m not afraid of dying it happens to us all some are lucky and live in healthier places than others ,some think they are lucky because they have everything they want but nature has its ways . It will decide not us !! And living in the stone age hasn’t done me any good either :D

    I don’t know, XR maybe.
What's the obsession with being on the spectrum?

  15. exactly. we're heading to dust but they'll be the ones sweeping it up.
folk (old folk often) complain that 'kids don't do anything' and yet complain when they do. maybe it's the privilege of getting old that means the youth have to be wrong/demonised?

Agree totally. She has a pretty high profile right now, it’s not uncommon for the ideas of prominent people to be co opted by others, some with dubious agendas, some not. You could say Bo Jo is a puppet, Trump is a puppet, Corbyn, Gina Miller...and loads of other prominent people.

  18. she preceded XR by some years, i can't imagine her being swayed so easily - this is based on having worked with a number of young people on the spectrum. obviously everyone is different but there are many commonalities too.

i think her fear and anxiety for the future is real and palpable for her and many others, she's expressing that and taking it to where it matters.

the amount of times i've heard 'why should i recycle when (insert local industry) is spewing out (insert local industry waste)?' but this is what she's doing now, asking for it to be a bigger/global concern. many industries won't elect to be more environmentally friendly and will only do so if it's legislated... and even then there's caveats/ get out clauses (carbon tariffs etc).

  19. Its the generation gap. Older folks look at the youth who only seem interested in their computers and smart phones. The youth look at older folks and see them as a load of idiots spoiling the planet and their future. She has to be admired, it takes courage to come forward and speak out, none of us could do that.
