so i found the sensor that chrisradioman told me may be the cause of my poor starting (see my van thread) anyway thought i'd check it out before i get one, here's two pics which show it looks like it's melted to the tinware? the sensor joins the loom by a connector (under the tape) but it then appears to be stuck to the tin? you can see in one shot where i have a screwdriver showing the loom wire. can anyone confirm that's wrong? also any idea if the sensor can be fooled into working if i bypass it and just earth the wire? i'm guessing while cold it earths out letting the cold start work, then when warm shuts off? ta
cheers chris i have enough slack to join into the loom when i get one, any thoughts on my idea to bypass the sensor to test it? is my idea feasable?
i aint got a way of doing that, i thought if i just earthed it direct and it started better i'd know it was shagged, will that hurt anything?
ok fair one, it may be that where it's melted it may be earthed anyway.... i'll cut and join it see if that helps if not i'll order one.
The sensor in the pic is the temp sensor 2, just it does not turn the fifth injector on. The TTS (Thermal Time Sensor, off the ground my head) is what turns the fifth injector on and off. To test the CSV (cold start valve) unplug it when cold and see if you engine starts the same. Does it poor start when warm?
At a certain temp the TTS sends a signal to the CSV to turn on for about 8 seconds and then it turns it off
pkrboo im confused? it starts crap cold and fine warm wheres this other sensor then? and what do you mean the one i'm messing with is a temp sensor? what for? please explain in dumbo, i'm fluent in that.
I am not at home at the moment but have a read here: http://www.ratwell.com/ There is also a guy called amskeptic on itinerant aircooled forum who has written up on what each part does
i had a look on there before, i have to admit to not being one for techno babble a picture and brief explaination of where it is and what it does and i'm happy lol
Excuse my obvious ignorance in all things over 1600 sir Poo but i thought a thermal cold start sensor looked like this -- Obviously i have it wrong but i did think that was what you were on about ?
malc' i don't know what i'm on about. as i've said before i know diesels and i'm learning on the fly with these air cooled, no idea how this cold start malarkey works, last petrol car i had you pulled the choke out manually and pushed it in a bit as you went along..... that's why when pkrboo said the one i took is another temp sensor i want to know in idiot speak what i'm looking for
If you earth the lead it will start exactly as it does now, if you disconnect the temp sensor it will start fine when cold & cut out when hot.
i think what is confusing me is the one i took a pic of that they call a temp sensor? what's it ACTUALLY do? same as the 5th cold start injector what is it? what does it do! why 2 sensors?
