Yeah, chancers in the VW scene soon get exposed. Graham seems a nice bloke and tbh, as hard as we try, not everyone engages with TE.
So long as it keeps the wheels rolling ..

  3. Ohh, I've hit a nerve. So interest in the vehicle and getting to know other people with the same interest is no longer part of owning a Type 2 then? It's all about fleecing people that claim to be "professionals" even though their "nice" to your face. Ok got it.

I dont get what you are saying?

MEB have only done what Type 2 Detectives have done in setting up a training school, if you will, for those who want to learn to maintain their splitties /bus / bugs etc. Most of those folk probably dont know about earlybay or tlb / techenders and are willing to pay.

    Horses for courses isnt it!

  7. Err no not at all, he's a professional who runs these workshops as part of his business (Midland prototype bay). Usually done in person but I assume they have been running them online due to covid.

In the five or six years ive been going to techenders i can say everyone of the people and each event have been great .
Ive only managed to get there in my earlybay a couple of times , others in a t5 and even a renault megane sleeping in a tent And always been made welcome
Certainly theres less spannering than when i first went but as i recall its always down to too wet , too cold or too hot . But theres always a tailgate open for you to bang your head on. If you want to.
Its a great event and i try promote it best i can but ive failed so far to recruit new visitors .
I get the point of trying out new initiatives at TE and think its a great idea .
I am a qualified trainer but trained IT , I dont have the knowledge to present anything of use at TE but i see there are certainly people there that have the knowledge and do a great job of impairing it to others already . I am thankful to them for increasing my knowledge so far .

^^ Matt and I have just had a quick chat about this. There's an intangible about TE that's hard to get in a class room.
There's a place for paid instruction, clearly, but what TE offers is the choice to learn, money laid out or not.
It's all there. People like MDJ, davidoft, lasty, pkrboo, dicky, Scrooge, Paul Calf etc etc and everyone who attends all have unique things to offer those who can be bothered to engage.
All for friendship and in the spirit I guess @Low n slow was hinting at.
There's a place for pro services, let them eat their cake and drink coffee in their scheduled breaks, but this thread is promoting Tech Enders and the best thing we can all do is to continue to support the meet ups by being there and...

    drinking beer

I love going to TE, they're amongst my favourite weekends of the year. The help I've had and the stuff I've learned is immeasurable, it has such a really laid back vibe, completely non judgemental, nobody cares who or what you are or what bus you drive. Arriving in the field and seeing people that you only see a couple of times a year, blowing the froth off a beer and feeling that you're amongst old friends is a great feeling. If my bus, bike and car won't start next May I'll hitch hike down!

That's the exact reason we love going, such a great weekend!

Runing ok and put to bed for the winter, should be good for TE in May. Are your babies nicely tucked up?

  15. That's good news :D

    They are, thanks, all cozy.

It's been an odd year for VW stuff, this year, what with Mum getting worse and the travel restrictions on seeing my lads :(

On a brighter note, taking the day off today, to see about a spray gun and mask; the work on them is never done.

    Oh whatcha going for?

  17. I have no idea, I was going to the paint factors, to see what they recommend. Any advice? Gratefully received :hattip:

I paid a small fortune for paint work on the Bug this year, I don't begrudge the paint shop a living, but I am darned if I won't have a crack at it myself and 'air dry converted' rattle cans are pants.

The Devilbiss GTI Pro gun I've got is ace.
I got it after reading the paint thread on here and seeing it recommended by a few folk. A mid-range priced gun but has paid for itself hopefully having done both the bus and bug with it.

  20. I'd like to put my name down for the May '22 TE. Third time's the charm.
