Well, on Saturday I changed a leaking switch on the master cylinder I just happened to spot coz I was grovelling under the bus.

You know me, I always carry a spare brake light switch...who doesnt:rolleyes:

Well, this is the spare! We'd left the field earlier to dive down to Lutterworth and Congi said when we got back he thought our brake lights were on!

Yup, fluid *******ing out of the new switch.
Out of the swaged plastic 3 pin bit .

No local factors had one in stock so I guess I'm going to have to carry 2 spares now;)

If your Alex isn't using some kind of analyser machine, either AFR or CO you need to stop asking him, and go somewhere else just for the one job to get it set properly.

  6. Linkage is off balance, one carb is still getting fuel when the other is at idle, hence the pop and bang on switch off?

  7. Your not the first person that’s happened to
The quality of the available switches is dubious at best.
Fingers crossed you get home in good time.

  8. Saying mine did that after a badly fitted new exhaust, worth checking i guess?

Home now, running fine and very smooth tickover, thanks again Mike for your help with my dizzy issue

  14. is it possible to fit a blanking plug into the master cylinder and fit a microswitch instead, gets around the terrible brake switches available?

This was 90% of my popping and backfiring..

This manifested itself as no problem for a while .(I use smears of exhaust paste on the gasket which sealed it for a while). then I whacked the exhaust on a bump which started it backfiring loudly on deceleration.
I later found the lower nut loose that side. So I tightened the nut and it settled down a bit but was still noisy going to TE. So I took the exhaust off and found the tinware was folded under the exhaust flange. When the sealant fell out that became a problem.
Tinware off 30 seconds with pliers, problem gone on the way home. Also the CHT dropped that side because it was not blasting hot gas across the back of the head l..

    Yep I guess so.
The thread pitch on the switch is an unusual m10x1 .
What I'm not sure about is the dual switch jobbie and on US buses how a workaround would affect the brake warning light on the dash.
I did many years ago decipher the wiring (it's not my forte Sam).
It wouldn't bother me because the reason I'd gone into the wiring was to disconnect the bloody warning lamp anyway.
Mine is just wired now as an on/off for the handbrake.
Something would have to be done to bypass the failure warning system coz when one switch fails the brake lights stay on permanently.
That's what alerted me when Congi said the brake lights were on..

I was just going to suggest popping up to Machine 7, around 6 miles north in Nuneaton.

Then I had a look on their website and they closed down in June 2022.

Sad to see that, really a nice bunch of people when I'd been there in the past.
