Tax exempt vehicle paperwork

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by Molteni Mike, May 24, 2019.

  1. I've just searched through a mountain of paperwork and there's no number to 'phone, any ideas on how I can get back the overpaid tax ?

    You haven't overpaid any tax.
It's tax exempt from the date the V5 is updated.

  3. Just to summarize, my camper was due to become eligible for Historic Status from April 1st this year. While the DVLA processed the paperwork I carried on paying the road tax at £23 per month to keep the camper "road legal".

This continued for 4 payments taking the vehicle through to August when I eventually received an updated V5 marked "Historic Vehicle"

In due course I received a refund of just £23 - ie one month's tax!!!!

    UPDATE.

In response to my written complaint to DVLA, I've just received the reply from DVLA as below.

So now the DVLA has refunded me ALL the overpaid Road Fund Licence ("road tax") from the beginning of April, even though the change in status to Historic was granted in August.

The letter refers to my "complaint" but I don't know if this is the only reason they refunded me the full amount.

The lesson here is that anyone in a similar position might be advised to also make a formal complaint to DVLA.

  5. But to be fair I think it should be from the date the application is made. I didn't get anything back though I think I should have been entitled to 2 months tax back. I applied in March with 2 months tax to go for April and May, but didn't get the historic certificate until July. Not sure I can be bothered chasing it though.

  6. My original letter to DVLA as responded to above. Might be worth writing something as below for the sake, in your case, of £47

Maybe it should be, but it (generally) isn’t.

  8. Ignore this post, the tax is OK, MOT irrelevant.
    Having a bad day..
