tail / stop light woes

  1. Hello... its been awhile - so long i had to re-register!

anyways, a small problem someone may be able to cast some light on...

for a while i have had the drivers side rear tail / stop light not working so well, indicator fine, so i thought after swapping bulbs etc... i would get a new unit.

went to fit this last weekend, but now have flashing stop / tail light and no indicator, but the "old" unit back on and working fine - all lights!, new back on still flashing tail / stop, no indicator.... so put the old back on... happy all working fine....... Sunday went to start.... low battery - never had starting issues before - new battery last year - jumped fine.
Tuesday - flat again and i mean totally out!!

    what have i done?

    Short somewhere?

the connections aren't great on these rear lights to be fair, clean them up with emery paper and make sure you have a good earth, are you sure the connections are identical on the new light? it is an easy fix to be honest as for the battery it could just be fluke, did you leave something on? hard to tell after just one flattening if there is a fault, suggest re-charge and monitor that one...where in staffs are you? i'm Rugeley, if you're not far and stuck i could pop over if you can't do it, as long as you aren't miles away.

  4. try the earth to chassis, just inside the engine bay, between the edge of the frame and the light unit you'll see an electrical connection on both sides. This is the earth - take the wire off this, make sure there is no paint or grot on it by giving it a good clean with some emery cloth/wire wool, give it a smear of vaseline and and reconnect the wires. If the wire connection is cruddy do the same or cut it off and fit a shiny new one
