You need to measure the length of pushrods you need, just run solid lifters and put a set of pushrods in, the pushrods may be standard in some type 4 engine

  3. Just throwing it in the mix, after seeing those push rods...

Do you not think that it might be a hydro cam that someone has cheaped out on and installed solid lifters as they cost less than hydro ones...?

I think that is the case. Seeing the price of hydro lifters. Had a question too, what's the general concensus on buying a set of used hydraulic lifters? Go or no go?

In your position I would, you can strip um clean um and chuck um in, there's a set up on that place what sells sheet :)

Cool will have a look. It's going to be sold anyway. And looks like I am going to get stung on telescopic push rod tubes. Anyone know if the scat kits of 8 would fit? Or do I need to measure the originals and find out size of the scats? It's just that the normal places they sell for about 20-30 each and that is bumming me out when the scat pack is like 40-70 for 8.

You might need to turn the engine and see the actual lobe on the cam.

Is the lobe the outermost reach of the egg part on the cam?

  12. what size are the pushrods/tubes?

some pics of the cam. looks fine as far as i can see. Although when i pulled a couple of the followers, there were traces of what can only be described as gold leaf???

Also pulled all of the pushrods as you do and found that 4 were un-molested. just need to find out if they are for hydraulics or not. Got a couple measurements for you @Paul Weeding

If these are good for hydraulics then i will feel a little better.

Actually took a day off today to sweep and tidy the workshop, and rearrange some machines. So i also had time to make a start on the bay. Got a couple of threads coming up about that. Usual thicko stuff which i know makes you lot feel clever when you school me.

    Cheers all.

I have just put all new hydraulic lifters and rods to match in and now I have no adjustment on the tappets at all. Can't get a gap. Wound out fully there is still no gap. I am stumped.

Losing the plot with this engine

  18. You can only assume nothing is standard here. Its beyond me matey. you got to wonder what exactly they did with the pushrods - shortened?

  19. Do you have the pushrods centred in the lifters properly?
