swopping pop tops

Discussion in 'Camper Conversions' started by lovedubs, Jan 21, 2013.

  1. Hi Guys, we currently have a Danbury pop top on our 1974 bay camper, the canvas is not good and the struts are missing.
We have a Dormobile pop top on our project camper, which still needs the canvas replacing but is in much better condition, can you tell us if we can swop one for the other please?
    Cheers

If the holes are roughly the same size, or you can alter the hole, I don't see why not.

Where there's a will there's a way. There are lots of parts to a Dormobile roof, frame, struts, hoops etc. Do you have them all? If yes and you don't neet the bunks PM Kenregency or me as we're looking for one. I'm half way through adding Dormobile roof to Ken's tintop. Previously I've removed a Devon roof and fitted Dormobile, but on that one the existing roof hole was too short so had to be filled in. This one being a tintop is easy in that regard.

  4. thanks guys, I forgot to mention the 1974 bay we are transfering it to has a factory fitted sunroof, will this make a difference?

Haven't decided what to do about the bunks at mo, but we also have the original Dormobile interior from the 1978 camper, its all a bit tatty, but we are not intending on using it, the passenger seat had the gas stove attached, we have that too

So has it got a Danbury pop-top or a factory fitted sun roof?

  6. Hi Zed, the 1974 camper has a small sunroof in the cab area and a Danbury pop top, going to have to measure the hole area, as not sure from pictures if the Dormobile pop top will fit, the two campers are not in the same place, which is making things more difficult! lol

Although originally Dormobile fitted the roofs half over the cab area, so save removing one of the roof strengtheners, people usually fit the inner frame from B-post back. This leaves the GRP roof overlapping the cab by about 6". Hope that helps.
