Just a quick post for now before I set off to the Liverpool v West Ham game. As some of you know I'm going to attempt to make a super viking roof from scratch. Here's my progress so far I've removed the hinges from the fiberglass roof and fitted rivnuts and aluminium plates sprayed the inside to match the bus and re carpeted the roof. Comes complete with beds etc £950 Viewing welcome 3 mile off m62 junction 34
Some more progress today I've managed to use an old roof rack off my work van, chopped it welded it. It does the job, the whole thing slides out ok 80 percent of the time but sometimes it jams . I need to come up with something between the aluminium and the steel as the aluminium is chafing on the steel (see last picture) I was thinking of gluing a plastic angle bead between the two Any ideas guys? I decided to spray the roof red I'm totally amazed at how different it makes the bus look Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Took all the bars off again today cut them all down half an inch in height it greatly improves the way everything slides, there's less slop so the bottom of the beds run more true and there's not such a step from the lower board to the top one. Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Looks like it’s going really well tbh. That’s more or less a facsimile if what’s on mine. @Zed in the Viking there is a board fixed to the main front to back rail on that side and the other side isn’t fixed and slides in and out on a rail front and back of the hole in the roof! ie closing off the hole in the roof effectively. I took mine out so I had better headroom with the roof down.
I didn't quite understand that! My memory of taking one to pieces then putting it back together is a C shaped platform around the access hole when it's up with 3 single beds - 2 crossways and one lengthways where that hole is that I was referring to?
The front bit above the sliding door has a child's bed attached to the square bar so the bed slides out over the sliding door. The other side above the cooker usually has a fixed child's bed that pivots so you can lock it up out the way whilst cooking but I'm not going to have one as I'd prefer the extra headroom whilst the roof is down. I've also found 3 different types of Viking roofs some have bunk beds on poles and also one where the hole gets closed up once you're up there although that was on a south African site (maybe to keep the lions out) Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
Haha, still don't understand, I'll have to wait and see what you mean when you've done it. Looking good so far by the way.
Yep well t25s and later bays had a double bed at the rear. Same set up but really just a shelf over the slider but it bid have a cushion which serves no purpose unless you design it to have an infil board which, if your careful with how you do the sides of the beds ca result in a double bed at the front as well. I tried that set up for a short while but it was more of a novelty than anything else. 2 doubles and a kingsize in a bay… had to be done!
The extra hight will allow some lockers up there which in mine are above the side units. I did away with the drivers side lengthways bed too!
I still don't get what fills that hole on the pulled out bit or where anything could pull out from to fill it up. Surely you don't just leave it like that?
@Zed Skip forward to 15 minutes It's like this same setup as T25 Sent from my SM-G981B using Tapatalk
OK... no.. I'm still baffled where that bit came from other than blocking the hole you say you want open for extra height when the top's down. Never mind, I'm just nosey and I like these things that fold out from nothing into so much.
