sump oil contains petrol

  1. Hi Guys,
More help needed. Just Had AA man out - bus wouldn't start (sounded like dead battery when keyed) and really strong smell of petrol. Turns out petrol is dripping out from left hand carb, probably due to knackered fuel pump diaphragm, and because the tank was pretty full ie gravity, petrol found its way into engine! Is this a reasonable assumption? I've just drained engine oil out followed by loads of clear petrol. Whilst I'm capable of replacing a manual pump, I don't think I'm upto fitting/upgrading to an electric fuel pump and are they worth fitting anyway? Help!

a few on here have had the same issues matey even when parking at certain angles, i'm sure someone will confirm what you say, i think it's right but i'm fuel injected, needless to say you sound like you know to drain and replace the oil before running...good luck.

  3. I'd check the float valve on the carb, then the fuel pump diaphragm, if you've got a mechanical one...
