steering problems 73 westfalia last hand drive

  1. Hi all new to the bay as always had t25, s picked the bus up last week and is great apart from pulling and drifting all over the show it is worse at speed on the motorway and good A roads I have adjusted the steering box slightly and had the bus on the ramp and all looks good. Any help would be great

    check the steering idler pin for play front to rear, this may have worn

    steering damper, whats that like?

    front wheel bearings, are they set up okay

    what about the ball joints & track rod ends

    we also found the rear donut bushes had past their best when Majors steering gave us grief!

  8. It pasted the MOT on Tuesday that's when I had a good look at it myself ball joints, track rods, wheel bearings all seem good but a mate at bugjam today also mentioned the steering damper I have had a look it looks original can't see any signs of leaking or damage.

    As a general rule, if it's not too blustery and the tracking and camber are correct and the tyres good, the steering should self centre. Even if lots of parts were worn it should still do this so it's a good place to start if there's nothing obviously amiss. Also adjust the steering box if needs be and check that the steering box itself is centred in relation to the wheels. The box is made tighter in the centre but if that part no longer relates to straight ahead wheels, no amount of adjusting will take out the straight ahead slack without binding when turning one way or another.
